We can tell that Bunker thinks he knows everything and he thinks he's the best because he knew something was up. We can tell that "Peter" likes to keep to himself because of his job he doesn't want people knowing who is. Throughout the book "Peter had tried to act as normal as possible but when the people that were looking for him raided the school he had to use his training to use and do the right thing. We also learn that now Bunker is going to work with "Peter" to help save themselves and the school but Peter is very skeptical because Bunker doesn't have any training and he's clumsy and doesn't realize and comprehend the things that are going on.

The author uses this phrase so we can tell that Peter is scared and hesitant to move forward with what he is doing. We learn that he is scared because he doesn't know who he's going to encounter and he doesn't know if he's going to ruin his mission or even die. The message would've been much different if Peter was acting confident and if he knew what he was doing.

In this sentence the author is using a simile and I could figure this out because he is comparing 2 things, her voice and her eyes using the word as. It is effective because we can tell from that sentence ans use of figurative language that the teacher is gentle and very kind towards the students in the class. I think that the author used those words to describe the teacher because he wanted to show us how highly the students view Miss Brown. This piece of figurative language helped us understand the characters because it showed us how the students were kind to their teacher because of how beautiful and gentle she was. It also affected the plot because it said the class was the only respectful class in the school because of how gentle she was and when she left and their was a substitute the class acted completely different and were disrespectful.

As a matter of fact he wants Peter dead and he doesn't want Katie to be alive either. He's come a long way to find "Peter" and he doesn't want him to get away or find out any information about the SCU. Peter has been trying think positive and he keeps telling himself and Katie that they will get out safely but he's not too sure of himself because he knows what Marchuk is capable of doing. Katie on the other hand has been crying and crying because she thinks she's going to die and she can't stop thinking about all the terrifying things that could happen to her. This scene effected the plot drastically because at the beginning of the break in "Peter" was convinced that Katie was apart of the SCU trying to go after him. But, when she was captured and they were holding her in the office that was in lock down he went back to square 0 because for the whole time he thought Katie was apart of the people going after him but she wasn't and now he has to rebuild his plan and his suspect pool.

In the sentence of this part of the story a simile is being used to describe how Brooke is being still and now moving and having fun at the party like a stone. I know it is a simile because the author is comparing Brooke to a stone using the word like. This piece of figurative language is effective because it kind of gave us readers a hint of what Brooke looked like and how she was at camp. I think the author used the word stone to describe her appearance. I think the author put this piece in the story to demonstrate how Brooke felt about being at camp and it indicated that she feels like she doesn't fit in and doesn't belong. This piece of figurative language helped me understand that Brooke doesn't really have someone to have fun with at camp and I think it was a turning point for Raven because I felt like deep down she wanted to bring Brooke to the dance circle and make her feel welcome but she just couldn't. But I believe that now she is thinking about what she can do to make Brooke like camp because her father's actions aren't Brooke's fault.

I would sort of stay to the back of my group and I would keep to myself like Brooke. The reason I am different than Brooke is because by the end of my camp I became friends with so many people and I ended up having a great time. Since we still have more to read in the short story I feel like Brooke will have time to make friends and I think by the end of the story she'll like camp.

In this piece of text we see Brooke is unsure on what to say about Raven. Even though Raven told the lady they were sisters Brooke added the "half" in. They hadn't really gotten along or talked to each other the whole entire time that they were at camp. Raven feels the same way, whenever Brooke was getting made fun of she didn't even try to step in and help. She kind of just let the situation be because she didn't want to get involved with it. The lady on the other hand tells that them that there is no half moon and shows that any type of sister is a sister and Brooke and Raven have never thought of that before. After the little meet up they had with the lady in the forest they started caring for each other and started talking more in one day than they did all the other days that they were at camp. This scene affected the plot because they started treating each other differently. Raven knew deep down that she cared about Brooke and she wouldn't of ran into the forest during a storm to find her of she didn't. They started acting more friendly to each other and even exchanged phone numbers at the end of camp so they could keep in touch.

This piece of figurative language is effective because it shows how great their teacher is. No student would want to have their teacher forever if she wasn't good. It helps the readers understand that the students view their teacher very highly and they used this piece of figurative language to show that when the teacher was gone they realized how greats she was and how much they missed her.

Denotation: the action of writing or drawing something carelessly or hurriedly.
Connotation: art
When the author uses the phrase "But the painter lady was moving from the milk crate to the step stool to the ladder, moving up and down fast, scribbling all over the wall like a crazy person." it gives the section of the story a negative feeling. It is showing that the kids in the neighborhood do not like people coming into their town messing up things that have been the same for as long as they can remember. This phrase added to the story by showing how the kids feel about the painter lady and how they think her art looks. The kids are sort of bias because they're little and they don't like change and they also don't understand the meaning of art so they think the painter lady is just "scribbling" on the walls and not making anything special. We understand want the kids think but not the parents. We also don't know what the painter lady is painting so we don't know what she's painting.

I knew it was personification because silence can't be crushing so the author gave an un-alive thing a human-like characteristic. Silence can't be crushing. It just showed the reader how quiet it was. This added to the story by showing us how the immigrant felt when it was her first night in America

It tells the readers that the situation Peter in is bad because when you think of something exploding you usually think of something bad and in Peters case he's so angry that he thinks he's going to explode from the anger he feels. This adds to the story by showing the situation that Peter is in is not good at all. Peter hasn't really showed his emotions at all throughout the story because he has been trying to stay calm and not put everyone's safety at risk. It shows us that what's going on must be pretty bad because Peter is very angry.

In this story that was a really important thing to do because Terry's dad goes through a lot and Terry has to be ready to help him just like in the hardware store. "It burned into Terry’s mind, the picture of his father down on the floor. It burned in and in, and hen wanted to walk away, but something made his feet move forward. He knelt next to his father and helped the owner of the store get him up on his feet. His father didn’t speak at all but continued to make little whimpering sounds, and they led him back into the owner’s office and put him in a chair. Then Terry called his mother, and she came in a taxi to take them home.
Waiting, Terry sat in a chair next to his father." Even though it was a huge crowd of people and Terry was embarrassed he still helped his dad.

The figurative language that is being used in this sentence is a hyperbole which is a use of extreme exaggeration. I could tell that this was a hyperbole because when Aerin used the words "working on this for a million years" I knew that wasn't right because 1. They've only known each other and been working on the case for a week and 2. Even if they had known each other for a longer time it couldn't be anywhere near a million years because they can't live that long and they're only in college. This piece of figurative language is effective because it's showing that no matter how close the group thinks they are to solving the murder there's always a major fight or setback that pushes the group back to the beginning which makes it seem like nothing has been done. The author included this piece of figurative language to show that many people in the group are losing hope because they seem like no progress has been made. This helps us understand that many people in the group want to give up and leave the case behind even though that would mean they would never find out what happened to Helena.

The author used this phrase to show that the experience Seneca was having was not a good one. It changed the feeling of the story because up until this point Seneca was happy to be in Connecticut because she could finally meet the person she was talking to bit who she met was not what she was expecting. We learn that one of the main characters who we thought was a girl was a guy and Seneca didn't feel comfortable around him.

The figurative language shown in this section is personification. I know this because a smile cant be sweet or shy. So they're giving a non-human think a human characteristic. This is effective because at the beginning Seneca thought that Maddy was going to be stuck up and rude but when she met him she was pleasantly surprised with how nice he was. I think that the author included this piece of figurative language to show that looks can be deceiving and that first impressions are important. Since Seneca was describing Maddy as a rude and scary guy when she was going to meet him I was scared for her but it helps us readers understand that not everything that happens online is true in the real world.

Everyone but Aerin is happy because they are getting closer to solving the case but Aerin is in denial. The author used this phrase because they finally got a break in the case and when they realized it was one of the turning points in the story. It added a lot to the story because the outcome of what they realized changes the path of the story and made them go into a whole different direction. We learn that they main suspect of the case was actually innocent and they had a whole new suspect because of the information that was spilled. This changes the characters feelings because Aerin now knows the suspect very well and she's trying to deny that it isn't him because she's known him forever.

This is effective because it shows that Seneca is actually showing her true self to the group for the first time. Seneca was always quiet at the beginning because she has always been shy but now that she is comfortable with the group she is finally being herself. I think the author added this to show that the group of people Seneca is with are really good people and they care about making her comfortable. Seneca was on the website "Case Not Closed" which is where people share information about cases they know to try and help solve them. Seneca met a user named Maddy and they started working together gathering information to try to get a break in the case. Those were the first clues that were mentioned in the story. They weren't getting too far with the case so they were both getting a little frustrated so they decide they have to think of a new plan. They decide that they are going to meet up in Delaware where Helena was murdered to try to get closer to the case. This is definitely a change in the plot because they could make something of this.
