The speaker's father really likes figs, and he dreams about eating a really big fig,. The speaker ate a fig and didn't really care that much, but the father did.
The father loves figs and he wishes he had a fig, and he imagines that he wish he had put a fig in his mouth. The speaker didn't really like the figs, they ate one once and just shrugged. The father felt otherwise.
The speaker's family moves to many houses to find a fig tree. then they found one in Dallas, Texas. The father chants an Arabic song to the tree and plucks the figs off the tree.
The father feels happy that he found a fig tree because he had been wanted to find a fig tree for years, and finally got one. The speaker was confused by why the father liked figs so much because the speaker shrugged when they ate the fig.
The author doesn't know why their father likes figs, but he had wanted figs for many years and finally found one.
