Moral decay is a massive aspect of Jocasta as it seen that the once queen of Thebes turns into a victim of her own hands. Jocasta's moral decay starts even before the story when she makes the dicision in having her own son die a extremely slow death in order to save her and her husbands own skins. Its the fact that the son wasn't given a fast death that higlights a lack of morality as the son was left to die of hunger alone. But as its seen in the story her moral decay skyrockets when she almost ignores the assumption of finding out she had married her own son. In her own world she almost seemed to think that by not addressing the problem, which is a huge sign of no moralaity, that the problem would go away even while knowing that Thebes is suffering a plague becuase of it. Jocasta is a person who throughout the story seems to like to ignore or forgot problems as she aswell forgot about the death of her husband, one of the main reasons the plague was set upon Thebes

Quote Analysis (Irony) Noe

When Oedipus speaks to Jocasta, Oedipus claims that “[Creon] says that [he is] Lauis’ slayer.... But by citation of a knavish seer; as for himself, he keeps his words blame-free”

This is an example of dramatic irony because the audience who interprets the play already knows that it is truly Oedipus who kills his father, Lauis. Oedipus is in denial of the prophecy by accusing Creon to setting him up with the seer. Furthermore, by Oedipus denying his fate, he is actually fulfilling and acting towards the prophecy. The continuous fight Oedipus has with fate demonstrates his high ego. His ego is backed up by his status, and by seeing Creon as a threat to it, he wants to denounce him. Also, Ironically enough, Oedipus speaks to Jocasta about a prophecy that involves her, and his denial regarding it. As a whole, the quote is important because it shows that Oedipus can have the truth in front of him yet be blind.

Moral Decay is a big flaw that Oedipus has and he shows it on his actions and also thoughts that he has. Oedipus moral decay begins when Oedipus kills his own father, he quotes in the text " my natural's father murder" meaning that it was his whole intension to finish his father in order to take control over the throne, he had more motives because he mention that it was his destiny to sly his father Polybus. Another moral decay that Oedipus has is when he marries his own mother, as in the text mentions "Saying I should wed my mother and produce a race of intolerable for men to see" it shows that he is insane to think marrying his mother will give him more power over men. Oedipus basically is saying that he is the only person in the world that was born without hate from heaven, and that he is the one who should slay everyone who has been born with hate, he thinks that he is a prophet send to slay anyone who jostled him.
