Because most men were in the army and the wives were left at home, Spartan women had many freedoms and greater power in the household. Spartans wanted to maintain their way of life, so they had frowned upon people from other parts of Greece spreading new ideas and beliefs throughout sparta.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Athens was an oligarchy ruled by its aristocrats. At the end of 1700 B.C. many Athen Farmers were sold into slavery because they couldn't pay their debts back. In 594 B.C. Athens had name Solon, a powerful aristocrat, their ruler. He canceled the land debt and freed the slaves. Because this did not solve problems, Cleisthenes created a new council and created the Athenian Democracy. </div>]]></description>
