The author did not help a lady on the bus because he was afraid that She would not take her in his help or scream or something because he was Puerto Rican. It says he was hesitating because it could go the wrong way instead of the lady being like yeah I would like some help. So basically all it’s really saying is he was afraid to help the lady because he was Puerto Rican and he was afraid because he didn’t know what was gonna happen.

I believe that he wanted to help her but he didn’t want his courtesy to be gone and couldn’t help anyone else.

I think that in this scenario the author would not only ask if the person needed help but he would also be kind about it . I think this because the author understands that sometimes people need some help and they don’t really care about your skin color.

I think the meaning of this would be because he was feeling like helping her and be polite but because of their race being different he didn’t want her to be scared or disappointed that a black man wanted to help her so he buried his politeness and didn’t help her.

The reason he added the description of the lady and her children is it helps you understand what he thought was going to happen when he asked her if she needed help. The article states that there was “a nice looking white lady in her early twenties” and that she had three kids and a suitcase with her and it later states that he is African American. This evidence shows why he thought that she was going to be scared of him because she was a young white lady with three kids and he was a African American man and at this time there was segregation so she could of been scared.

I think he did not help because he is black and he thinks she doesn’t want someone a different race helping her because this is when all that stuff was happening so he was rude and didn’t help because he though he would get in trouble so he was rude and mean which is not nice even though you are different.

In the story the author created a vivid description of the lady and her children who boarded the subway to show how she needed help. In the story it states, that the lady had her hands full with one child in her arms, suitcase in her hand as well as two small children. The author included this information to show she had her hands full, and how she could use someone’s help.

I believe that the writer wanted to help her in the beginning but was afraid to. He had to live with that regret for the rest of his life. He decided that if it ever happened again he would help the person with no regrets.

Back in the old days Racism was a big thing and in the text it states his thoughts of how he was scared of the outcome and how the lady might take his offer the wrong way, as POC people were considered criminals, so he thought the worst of the situation and let his fear take over him so it felt like he couldn’t help.

The purpose of the description of the lady and her children is to show the lady is white and has three children on the subway alone. According to the text she had a baby on her right hip a suitcase in her left hand and two children behind her. This evidence means that she is a mom traveling alone and may need help getting the kids back off the subway.
