There are many examples of change throughout the novel in every character, especially in Ponyboy, Dally, and Randy. The first part in which Ponyboy experiences change is when he cuts his hair off, because he changed his appearance, and he ended up losing his only pride, so that was a big change he had to deal with. Johnny changing his way of life happened after he killed Bob, or when Bob beat Johnny up. Ponyboy also realizes that everybody had problems even though they may be different. Both Randy and Johnny change their views about fighting. In the beginning they both fight with their gangs but near the end they both say that fighting is not good. We think that S.E. Hinton included this theme in the Outsiders because if throughout the book no one changed, there would be no point in the book being written. S.E.
