A solar eclipse happens when the moon blocks the sunlight when it comes between the Earth and Sun. When it goes between the Earth and Sun, it doesn't always be a solar eclipse because the moon's orbit about Earth is tilted at around 5 degrees relative to the horizontal plane. So, when the moon is ON the plane AND it's between the Sun and Earth, then there'll be a solar eclipse.

Lunar eclipses happen when the earth is between the sun and the moon. The earth is bigger than the moon so the earth casts a shadow on the moon as it is blocking the sunlight. So as the moon cannot reflect any light, we cannot see it. People on earth either see a bit of the moon or nothing depending on if they are looking at the penumbra or the umbra region. People who see the penumbra face a partial lunar eclipse while others who see the umbra region face a total lunar eclipse
