Mexico City is located near the southern end of the plateau of Anahuac.  The horizon is almost completely covered by the mountain ranges to the East. The city is a focal point for tourists because of its local colours and cultural attractions. The ruins of the Aztec Temple have been excavated, and many monuments of Spanish colonial architecture remain.

From the time when the Aztec capital stood on an island in Lake Texcoco, which is now the centre of the metropolis, measures have been taken to protect the city and provide for expansion by draining Texcoco and the other lakes nearby.

The French thought that they would win easily and targeted a small town in the east-central of Mexico called  Puebla de Los Angeles, but the Mexicans knew this so they sent in anyone they could to help fortify the town and help fight the French. The fight lasted till daybreak and there was a total of only 100 Mexicans killed from the 500 in the defending side. In the end, the French had to withdraw and save their troops for the civil war so that they had plenty of soldiers.

Today Cinco De Mayo is mainly celebrated in Puebla, they have many things like military parades and recreations of the battle.
