This photo was taken in 2015 during the Ebola Outbreak. Moa Wharf is one of the many slum communities within Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone. I facilitated an engagement comprising community leaders to assess sanitation challenges that impact the living condition of Moa Wharf residents. To show the actual condition of the community, i was able to persuade the community leaders to walk along the poor sanitation to get a first hand experience. The engagement sparked a series of radio shows and brought the poor condition of Moa Wharf to the attention of the President of Sierra Leone, who later visited the community. An international organization was later tasked to worked with the youths to find solutions to solving the poor sanitation challenges in their communities.

Photo: Kabia O (2015, Moa Wharf Community)

This photo is taken in 2017 during the just concluded first round Oral Cholera Vaccination campaign in Sierra Leone. This is one of the affected communities from a list of 25 where the vaccine was administer to prevent, limit the spread and stop possible outbreak of cholera. One of the long term preventive measures for cholera is the availability of safe water for utilization by community. The photos shows just the opposite.

Photos (WHO/Acland O)
