         <description><![CDATA[<p>in 1299, a prince named sang nila utama came from a place called palembang in sumatra. one day, he went on a journey by ship to explore new lands. while sailing, there was a big storm, but he finally reached an island called temasek, which is now singapore.</p><p>when sang nila utama got to the island, he saw an animal that looked like a lion. he had never seen one before. he thought it was a sign of bravery and strength. because of that, he decided to build a city on the island. he named it singapura, which comes from two old words — singa means lion, and pura means city.</p><p>that’s how singapore got its name, the lion city. sang nila utama became its first ruler, and people remember him as the founder of ancient singapore. his story is a mix of legend and history, showing how singapore’s story began a long, long time ago.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>in 1819, sir stamford raffles came to singapore. he worked for the british and wanted to find a good place for trading. singapore was just a small fishing village then, but raffles saw it could become important. he met tengku Hussein and called the singapore treaty. this treaty allowed the british to start a trading post in singapore.</p><p>raffles asked william farquhar to help him run the place. farquhar built roads, markets, and houses, and soon a lot of traders came. because of raffles and farquhar, Singapore became a busy trading port.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>in 1942, the Japanese came from malaysia and moved very fast with bicycles and tanks. they also bombed singapore from the air. the japanese soldiers knew how to fight in the jungle and were resilient and hardworking for their country's success</p><p>the british were not ready. they thought the japanese would attack from the sea, so their big guns were in the wrong place. their soldiers were not trained for the jungle and they were too arrogant.</p><p>because the japanese were strong and the british were weak, the japanese won on february 15, 1942</p>]]></description>
