When I think of the term "learning theory", the thought that comes to mind is that there are several different ways humans absorb and retain information. In the first class of the program (EDU 523), a survey asked each student the best way that they learn. My response was that I learn best through a hands-on approach, or learning by doing. I am sure that this falls into a particular theory which influences instructional design. There are so many factors that influence learning such as: environment (the setting where the learning takes place); culture, demographics of the learners, etc. that I believe it would be difficult to base instructional design off of one theory of how learners learn and instead must blend several theories in order to design the best instruction.

"Learning" by Colette Cassinelli is licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0
