It is also been used for Savonarola who gained political power in Florence for a few years but was excommunicated for his teachings against the pope. Excommunication is significant to show what the church allowed in the time of the Renaissance. Also if the excommunicated were actual were wrong or, the church just didn't want to lose power. It provides us more information by the actions of the church in the renaissance. Lastly, it displays how new ideas were analyzed during that time.
