I think recognizing the time commitment required of faculty mentors has been one challenge. This time is certainly worthwhile, but I've had to learn to make space for it.

I find having TEAM check-ins on chat to hold me and them accountable. It also allows me to see who is busy both in lab and out of lab that week so I am providing them with realistic tasks.

I have meetings as a lab and on specific projects. This allows students to interact in different ways. I also really enjoy end of the year dinners and meetings where we can talk about research but also life in a less formal setting.

Mentorship for Faculty

It's been helpful to learn from and with an experienced UR Mentor. I'm now trying to pay it forward with a pre-tenure collaborator who is hesitant to work with URs.

Over summer time, when students aren't on campus for classes, it's occasionally harder to get them to routinely commit to serious work, because the on-campus component is missing, and they sort of come across as 'on break, but sort of also working'
