Hannah started to tell my other friends these things to my other friends so they would become upset with me and start hanging out with her more. Hannah, Olivia, and Lauren started telling other people these lies; therefore, it was even harder for me to make friends. I started getting bullied and made fun of and eventually led to me questioning my self-worth, whether or not I was good enough, which led to me getting diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I still to this day suffer with self-love and confidence; every day is a struggle of whether I should give up or keep fighting out of this dark hole I was sunk in.

Once upon a time, Jebediah the cowboy lived in the wild west. Although he was the Sheriff of the town, he had a fear of guns since he was a child. His father always warned him, "You don't want to end up like me and lose your leg. You may end up losing your life!" Even though Jebediah strutted with confidence while carrying a gun in his holster, he was afraid to use it. One day, he was met by a villain from the neighboring town; his name was Arthur. Julio said, "Face me in a standoff. If I win, I take your town. If you win, you take my town." Jebediah didn't want to lose his town or let his people down, so he accepted.

Before the faceoff, Jebediah walked down to the river to look into the water. While he looked at his reflection, he thought to himself, "I was afraid that this day would come. Now it's here, and I'm terrified. Even though I'm afraid, I need to find the inner strength to defend my town. My dad wasn't just cautious, but he always told me to believe in myself."

Jebediah stood up and walked back to town to face Julio.
While standing opposite of Julio, Jebediah stood with his head held high and glared into Julio's eyes. On the other hand, Julio looked like he was sweating bullets while his eyes were glued to his boots. When it was time for the faceoff, Jebediah won with ease. His town was grateful for how he stood up for them despite his fear.

"Get out of bed," a familiar voice urged, "we're going to be late."
Suddenly my legs were bare, the air conditioning hitting the little hairs that had yet to been shaved. I shivered and rolled over, trying to reach for the blanket to be protected in the warmth.
"Not on my watch," the voice said, "as your friend and partner in rehearsal, I am required to get you downstairs so that we can practice. I refuse to get counted off because you're lazy."
Something hit my leg, startling me upright.
"Jeez, that was cold," I snarled at Mandy, looking at the remains of ice water in her cup. Mandy only smiled at me.
"Well, that was the only way to get you up." Mandy turned and headed towards the door. Reaching for the knob she looked over her shoulder and gave me a weird look. "Also, he's gonna be there."
I almost asked her who he was but it hit me at the last second. Scrabbling out of bed I hurried to the closet to get ready. I heard a laugh from the doorway but didn't look at Mandy. She knew that the guy from choir was the guy that I had an interest in since the sixth grade. It just so happened that he became a helper for all-region choir. Even though it was distracting, and got me sidetracked, I got to see him almost every day.
After sliding into my choir uniform I pranced into the kitchen and looked in the fridge. The coffee I had made the night before wasn't there so I looked at the coffee pot, empty.
"Mandy, you seriously drank my coffee," I hollered through the dorm. Mandy walked in a few seconds later, "that's what happens when you use all of the coffee and don't buy anymore." I rolled my eyes, I didn't have time to argue. I looked at the clock, grabbed my keys, and headed for the door with Mandy trailing behind me. While I was locking the door Mandy bounced on her toes. "Don't do it again," I told her. "Then buy more coffee when you use it all."
I opened my mouth to say something but she was already sprinting to the stairs. I rolled my eyes and caught up with her, trying to put my shoes on while walking.

We were the last ones to get downstairs, Mr. Jude was passing back and forth telling people what to do and where to stand. The choir guy was leaned against the wall observing everything. I blushed when he caught me staring and I quickly slid past Mr. Jude, hoping that he didn't see me. Mandy didn't care, she walked right past him and claimed her spot.
"Mandy and Nic, you're late, that is unacceptable." I cringed at the way he said my name. He didn't lecture us, much to my surprise, he just went ahead and started the music.
Standing up straight I opened my music and waited for my cue. When it was given I sang. My throat was warm, I could feel my diaphragm tensing against the strain. While I was singing that was the only thing that mattered, all of my problems, all of my worries, they were all gone, the only thing that mattered at that moment was me singing.
After rehearsal was finished Mandy quickly found me and we waited to be dismissed. While the minutes ticked by I watched the choir guy move from one group to another, he was giving tips on performance. When he got the group of boys that were next to me and Mandy I started to panic. I turned to walk away, and I almost got away, but Mandy grabbed my arm and held me in place. "Today is the day you ask to hang out," she whispered. I shook my head, about to make a run for it, but Mandy shoved me in his direction. He smiled and held out his hand to me, "hi, I'm Cass."
I nodded and he took his turn to speak to me, I just stood there like a fool and listened. I watched his eyes, they were a soft brown with a sparkle of gold. His hair was in a bun today, it was also dark brown. Cass didn't stand much taller than me, which made me feel good, not as intimidating as I thought. When Cass turned to leave I placed my hand on his arm. He turned and looked at me, "yes, did you need something." I looked at Mandy for help but she had already found a group of girls to chat with. Taking a deep breath I spoke, "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out?" I stepped back in shock as soon as the words left my mouth.
Cass smiled, "I would love that, after dismissal come find me and we can talk more," he said and walked to the next group. As much as I wanted to be mad at Mandy I couldn't help but thank her. Without her, my best friend, I wouldn't have even met him.
