The Forest Ecosystem by Teddy Achladis

Each student has been handed a slip with an animals name on it. Place the name of your animal on the screen. Rank them based on survival chances. The top left corner should be the living thing that is most likely to survive. The topright corner should contain the organism that is most likely to die in a theoretical food chain associated with this forests ecosystem. Be sure to move other peoples organisms around if need be. Also, provide a short response as to why you placed your organism in that position.

Mountain Lions are very fast. They often use hills and mountains to jump on prey from above. Bears are no fast enough to cat them, nor climb a tree if the mountain lion chooses to do so. When in combat with a bear, the bear is much more massive, and could kill a mountain lion with a few blows.

Chipmunks eat nuts from trees. They are small enough to hide in small places. They cannot defend themselves when exposed to larger animals. I have actually placed them ahead of the bobcat because larger animals would eat a bobcat that is more filling instead of a chipmunk. Chipmunks are good at hiding in grass, leaves, and plants as well.
