This article discusses some of the flaws of the Global Health Security Agenda, as the U.S. and the U.K. Governments have provided among the world's worst responses to the Covid-19 pandemic. Neither Country has proper protective equipment for healthcare workers, nor are there enough hospital beds for the onslaught of sick patients. They also lack widespread testing and contact tracking. Countries which ranked high on the Global Health Security Index in 2019 ended up having worse responses to the pandemic than countries which ranked lower and responded to the pandemic more effectively.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa was another instance which exposed the GHSA for its flaws and therefore, prompted change. Due to the fact that this outbreak was unprecedented and therefore impacted the world greatly, it drew attention to global health security and its ineffectiveness. The Ebola outbreak caused government to begin attempting to strengthen its core public health capacities and recognize the issue in the current system.

This image is of the effects that COVID-19 had on the people of Brazil. Since Brazil is not a part of GHS, Covid-19 particularly devastated them. This massive impact has prompted us to strengthen and expand the Global Health Security Agenda.

This image displays the rankings of different countries based on their perceived ability to respond to emergencies. This particular one was created before the Covid-19 outbreak, which ended up proving this prediction to be gravely wrong, as some of the top countries actually responded worse than most. After being hit so hard by Covid-19 it was made obvious that the GHSA needed to be improved.

This concept map discusses the different aspects and weaknesses of the Global Health Security Agenda and how certain pandemics have drawn attention to such weaknesses. Although the world was under the impression that the GHSA was solid and almost full proof for certain countries, they were met with a cruel reality once Covid-19 hit. Once pandemics such as Ebola and then Covid-19 came to pass, people began to question whether the GHSA is effective in mitigating disease outbreaks.
