One of the memory tricks I use is something called chunking. This is where you brake up the information in small parts to understand and comprehend the information. This also helps eliminate SERIAL POSITION EFFECT so you remember the whole thing instead of the begging and middle.

When solving a problem us humans use many MNEMONIC DEVICES to solve problems. But before we start to solve the problem we have to process it in 3 simple steps.

Initial step- identifying the problem. Thinking about the unsolved problem. What type of problem is it?

Operations Step-Form a strategy. Try various strategies to solve the problem.

Goal Step- reaching the solution.

Trail and Error is one strategy many people use. There isn’t a specific formula and no short cuts are used, therefore you just try many things until you find the correct way to solve the problem. I use this technique when putting a puzzle together or trying to put furniture together.

In other words, by following certain steps the correct way you will you will the correct solution.

We use problem solving everyday. One way we solve problems is by using FUNCTIONAL FIXEDNESS This is a strategy used when we try to alternate an item when the original item is broken. For example, if your clothing dryer broken people solve it by using a har dryer. That is a way of problem solving.

This could happen while you’re taking a test and you’re confused on a question, then you realize the answer and you have the Aha-ha moment.

Is there any evidence that typed notes being less effective as a learning process than handwritten notes?

I think that handwritten notes are more beneficial due to how our brains process things. This is called COGNITION which is the mental process of thought such as attending, knowing , remembering , and making decisions. Therefore I feel that if these steps are rushed you could not fully think about the information if you were you are typing. But if you were writing you have to think more because of your grammar, spacing and spelling is being correct on the notesheet. I also feel that when writing somthing you use EFFORTFULL ENCODING, because you have to actually think about what you are writing about. Now if I had to find more evidence to back up my statements, I would test to see which test scores come out better. The test scores when they typed notes or wrote notes.

To conclude this padlet, we it talked about the ins and outs of memory and the most important parts of it. Memories are important becasue it hold special events that happens throughout our lives. It’s important to know how our brain holds those emotions. Also if you think about it we would be no where in life if we didn’t have memories, we would have to relearn everything everyday. Memory also is like thinking which comes in two forms, DIVERGENT THINKING and CONVERGENT THINKING. With that thinking is like problem solving aswell, which was talked about in this padlet. But is memory as reliable as we think? Because there is somthing like EYEWITNESS TESTIMONY which has been proven to be unreliable. But in a way it protects us from bad painful memories which is called REPRESSION. But overall us humans rely on memory to and get through life.
