1)
POW is best for students 1st through 6th grade. The acronym POW stands for “Pick ideas, Organize notes, and Write and say more." During the picking ideas stage, students will decide what to write about. During this time students must formulate their opinions on the topic. In the organization stage, students will be brainstorming and creating a writing plan. This may be done with a graphic organizer or strategy such as TREE. During writing and saying more, students will put their ideas into writing while continuously modifying their plan while writing.
2)
POW will aid Kaynia in organizing her thoughts and writing to create a flow and will give her writing sentence structure. Using POW will give her writing structure even before she begins drafting.

STOP

The word STOP in writing strategies stands for Suspend judgment – list the points for both sides of the argument and consider all possible sides àTake a side – read through the list of points for both sides and determine which side you believe is more persuasive àOrganize your ideas – select the strongest ideas. It might be helpful to number them in order of importance àPlan more as you write – continue planning as you write. This will help Kaynia organize her thoughts into a structured paragraph and result in a paper that flows all the way through. The word STOP is to help her organize all of her thoughts instead of just writing exactly what she thinks when she thinks it.
