This book is filled with these. For example, Bryon talks about how the police never goes into the poor neighborhoods, and instead prefer to patrol rich places. Also, we see that no help is offered from the government towards the family. A consequence of that is that when Bryon's mother felt sick, the two kids had to steal stuff in order to survive. This might have initiated Mark to start doing shady things at a young age, all leading up to him not caring about selling drugs.
