History
-	Tampines was named after the ‘Tempinis’ tree which grew abundantly in the area
-	In its early days, farmers and villagers in scattered squatter settlements dotted its otherwise barren landscape. A visitor to Tampines in the 1970s would have been greeted by undulating hillocks and deep craters formed as a result of sand quarrying

Fun facts
-	Largest residential area in the city-state of Singapore
-	There is a hidden park in Tampines called the Tampines Quarry Park which originally was a sand quarry. As time passed, rain water filled the quarry. It is the only park in Tampines that is not equipped with any facilities, but this park is still popular among residents living nearby. There are no signs to the park and there is no entrance as it is hidden among the greenery. There are hidden pathways to enter.
-	Two giant cone-shaped structures in Tampines Road which are actually concrete inverted cone shaped storage tanks built to each hold 8448 cubic metres of NEWater
-	Beginning of the cycling revolution. Tampines was selected as the place to trial the now familiar shared footpath scheme. The trial – carried out between May 2007 and May 2008 – was on 1.2km of specially modified footpaths (widened to 2m) and utilised almost 250 wardens to police the scheme and help any confused pedestrians and cyclists. It was deemed a success and in 2010, Tampines was named the first cycling town in Singapore and is to this day one of the few places on the island cyclists can legally bike on the pavements
-	Internationally award winning where in 1992, Tampines New Town won the much-coveted United Nations’ World Habitat Award for its success in and contribution to “innovation and successful human settlements”. Shortlisted along with Vancouver and Boston, Tampines was finally selected as the winner after the assessors made two trips to each of the contesting towns and cities

The first mention of Pasir Ris dates back to 1844 in land surveyor John Turnbull Thomson’s map, where its name was spelled “Passier Reis”.1 The name Pasir Ris is possibly a contraction of the word “Pasir Hiris” (in Malay, Pasir means “long sand” and Hiris means “to shred or slice”).

- Pasir Ris has alot of fishing spots
- Downtown east
- Wild Wild Wet.
