3. Shows Okonkwo's character which is one of his biggest weaknesses. Okonkwo works his hardest to be the opposite of who his father was. He prides how successful he is compared to his father. We connect and have empathy for Okonkwo because we see his background and what caused him to become who he is, but he fails to be humble and understand his father who might've had similar problems that caused him to be lazy and the way he was.
