It doesn't matter if it is a bad or good relationship, the meaning of love has a different meaning in the story. With some relationships the love just isn't there and they continue to carry out their relationship even when its unhealthy. For others it has become a priority, idealized, and kind of unreal so therefore it has lost it value and purpose.

One of the most used idea in the story because every little detail describes money. All the way from Gatsby's house to the pen Daisy uses to write just symbolizes all the wealth people have and how some may abuse it or utilize it.

This plays a part in the story because it relates back to the East Egg and West Egg and even the Valley of Ashes because people are placed at a certain place just based on how much money they have(social class). This also reflects the characters personality and style.

Mentioned multiple times in the book the green light located at Daisy's dock and represents Gatsby's love for Daisy. The light is right across from his house and is so close yet so far. He also uses this light to describe Gatsby's hopes and his future and how he has to pursue it.

This place is symbolized as dark, dirty, and a place where the "poor" people stay. Fitzgerald is trying to demonstrate this as a place where no one wants to be and describes it as grey, cloudy, ghastly just to portray it as dull and depressing.

East Egg symbolizes the "old rich", the people who inherited their wealth and they are kind of the trustworthy and authentic people out of the two. West Egg symbolizes the "new rich", they just recently gained their wealth and had to work for their money instead of inheriting.

Fitzgerald matches the weather in the story or scenes in the book based on the mood present. Like when there is tension between characters the weather would be blazing hot outside. This is repetitive throughout the book if you pay attention to when he explains it.

Gatsby is a major example of this because he has taken love and the meaning for it and turned it into some "competition". He wants to use wealth to get the love of his life instead of actual morals to win her heart.
