“I'm considering writing and recording some new music that is a combination of, "Oddball Ecletronic" and "1960s AM Top Forty”.

I guess it might be described as, Mouse On Mars picks up Massive Attack, while driving by Tommy James' house, on the way to see Georgy Girl. I don't know… Maybe that's a little too, you know—obvious. Coldcut gets a seat on one of the Boards Of Canada, and jumps into Lake Gorillaz with the singer and bass player from The Asteroids Galaxy Tour? Yeah? No, that doesn't quite do it at all. What happened to AM Top Forty? I guess it's really more like mixing "Traditional Beat Pirate" with "Outlaw Carnival", and tossing in a pinch or two of "Dollhouse". To explain that a different way, I'd have to take apart my whole garage setup again, and that's a waste of a lot of duct tape. I take that back. Gaffer's tape. That stuff is expensive, and you don't just stick it on your kid's lunch bag with a note to "Enjoy your day, kiddo". Well, you do if that's all you've got laying around the kitchen and it's time for school. But, that's only if your Mom isn't a junkie bowler, and doesn't make you wear funny clothes.

At least my Mom didn't make me get a haircut that she liked. That was the way it was back in the AM Top Forty days. You could have the bell bottoms because they sold those at Sears. A Navy Pea Coat? Of course! That was as American as it gets—at least for ocean going service types. If you were real tricky, you might even get Mom to go for a pair of suede Beatle boots, but only kids with parents who didn't care if they smoked on the way to school were ever that lucky. The haircut though, was either Mom's way or as long as it could possibly grow during a school year. Eitheror—which is kind of like the music I'm trying to compose. It's either this or that, but not usually a very clean combination of the two …or three. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and bet that no one reading this can close their eyes and recite even the first verse to 'Walk Away Rene' buy Left Banke. You can even listen to it while you try, but you won't be able to do it. And, that's exactly where we'll start with this new eclectronic T40 genre. Walk Away Rene (or is it Renee?). I wondered about the spelling of something else above earlier too. Oh yeah, Pea Coat. That can't be right. Pea? Probably just "P" coat because it definitely stood for party when I wore mine.

So, this new eCT40 genre ought to be a barrel. Why the C? The C is there because we wouldn't want to confuse electronic music with eclectronic music. Eclecticness is the Father of creativity, and an important distinction to make sure to make. It's possible that to be part of eclecticism, one might have to buy into the Father and Mother of creativity theory. That's the one where creativity came from a loving couple, as opposed to just some Dad. Wait! Creativity doesn't come from people, ideas and eventually, stuff comes from creativity, right? That's a different story, and has absolutely nothing to do with my approach to creating music. Ha Ha. I said creating music. I guess it has everything to do with creativity after all. (C'mon. We all know I knew that and just wrote it to be a tripster.) So, back to the music. The number one rule of all music, no matter what style, genre, type, or kind, is that it needs to be listened to as loudly as possible (without introducing distortion, of course). Pretty much why wherever I go, I preach the benefits of insisting on the "Whippin' Loud Setting" (WLS). AM Top Forty, Eclectonic, Breakfast Beat, and the dude who sang Walk Away Rene. Maybe it's Renė. That could be what's throwing me off.

Following this superior piece of work, is a link for you to ponder. Don't ponder the link. Go to the linked page and ponder that. It's music by a genius of a character called just borris. borris (two of the letter r, and always a lower case b) knows how to combine genres like an old lady living in the woods knows how to combine mushroom powder and acetone. No, I'm just kidding kids. Don't ever do that!

Anyway, borris, it turns out, is actually genrephobic. Yep! Not phobic in the incorrect sense—the our my friends among the homosexual crowd have twisted it. I mean, phobic means fear/afraid of, like fear of falling, fear of wide open spaces, fear of buildings caving in when the bass frequency hits that perfect—not dislike, hate, I don't like, or whatever the word has changed into. Blah, blah, blah. Now that's a professional little transition. Made it up myself. Really. Kind of. A little bit. For our purposes here, we'll just use that phobic part of the word correctly, and say that borris is afraid of genres. He's perfectly comfortable letting other's use them, but don't make him get involved. He'd probably start crying and run to the SHED. Had enough yet? Huh? What?

I think that's plenty for this first little test run of a "post" about new music. I think I covered it all quite well, and except for leaving out the important element of cars without trunks, it looks pretty good to me. Then again, I did write it. I also will write this talked about, and supposedly upcoming new music. I'll record it too. Helk, I'll even sing on it. Maybe borris will sing on it. Maybe he'll write some of the lyrics. I think so. Yes. borris!

»» Find out more about borris and his off & onbeat brand of music by clicking anywhere here… (NOTE: The comments about the songs are often better than the songs themselves.
