I feel that total defence is important is because without it, we would be subjected to the mercy of others. We would be thrown to hard labours without much food and surccumb to diseases and starvation. This picture depict a POW working for the death railway and by the look of his condition he looks malnourished and exhausted. This picture resonated with me as we the abundance of food resources in the world now, we take for granted the most things that we normally have.
