They lost in their first hearing, at the general district court, because they said it was separate but equal, but appealed all the way up to the supreme court and won, the decision being that segregated schools did violate the 14th amendment, because it could never be fully equal, the end result being segregation banned.  (Daniel)

Plessy was 1/8 black. He bought a first-class ticket and sat at the front of a white only railroad car. He was arrested for violating the law. He said that it went against the 13th and 14th amendment. He lost his case twice and then took it to the supreme court, but the decision was upheld. (John, Daniel, Aiden)

This made the courts decide that the people accused of a crime, had to know their rights read to them so they didn't get confused like Miranda and self incriminate. Miranda not knowing his rights and being forced into confession, or so he thought, went against the 5th amendment of due process(Daniel)
