Socratic Seminar

Socratic Seminars take place so that everyone can share their opinions/ideas about a topic that we are given. The two topics that we had were: What was the biggest contribution A Christmas Carol made to the world, and how racism/discrimination was like in 1967 versus 2017. The Seminar was very much like a debate, so I had some experience with it since I take debate classes. The parts I liked most about this was when my classmates disagreed with each other so that we could have different ideas shared. Overall, the Socratic Seminar taught me a lot about other perspectives.

Best Book I've Read This Year

The best book I read this year was "I Am Malala", a true story about an empowered girl fighting for their rights to go to school. This was a very inspiring book, as it explained how Malala's brutal attack only made her stronger. Also, this encouraged me to read more nonfiction books.

One of my greatest successes this year was discovering a larger selection of books to read from. In the past, I would only read either fiction or science fiction, while this year it was a requirement to read science fiction, nonfiction, medieval times, and Newbery award winning books. This was eye opening for me, and I am glad that I have more genres of books to choose from.
