Ch. 9 quote explanation

The last few paragraphs of the novel "The Great Gatsby" completes the story and wraps up the novel as a whole, because the ending scene with the green light explains the green light and everything it represents and ever once represented, we first get introduced to the green light in chapter one as explained by Ann Marie, but by this time in the novel the green light has changed and represents so much more than what it once did in the start of the novel. This green light quote at the end of the story first talks about Gatsby's life and what the green light once meant to him, Gatsby was a mover, he wanted success, he overcame struggle, and the green light represent his ultimate goal and what he had been working for he wanted not only to win back Daisy and revisit his past with Daisy five years ago but he did want that wealth in order to win back Daisy because he felt that with his newfound wealth and status Daisy was now within his reach. One other quote that describes not only Daisy and Gatsby's past, but Gatsby's want for wealth, is the quote "rich girls don't marry poor boys". Not only this quote represents Gatsby but it also represents others in the novel, and everyone during the era. The green light also represents everyone else who died in the novel in that they had a similar goal to Gatsby's, they wanted to gain wealth and make a better life for themselves. They represented the poor and common people during the great depression in that their own success was always almost in reach, but seemed like they could never grab a hold of success, a Gatsby was the closest to this in that his gain of wealth got him in reach of the green light, but the main focus point and main representation of the green light for Gatsby was Daisy, he never truly reaches this green light, and he can never escape his past. The final representation of the green light shown in this quote is that fact that toward the end of it Nick starts stating "we" and "us" this symbolizes that Gatsby no longer has a green light because of his death and the green light now represents all the people during the great depression trying to gain wealth and success.

The green light symbolizes that hes reaching towards a goal he could never really get. It is connected to Daisy which turns out to be an unworthy dream. It could also symbolizes the envy he has for Tom for what he has that Gatsby wants. He believed in the green light. that it will lead him to his future with daisy with year by year gets a little further.
