*  Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort in an effort to control the Perak tin trade known as the Dutch Fort. In 1874, it was the location of a historical treaty between the British government and a contender for the Perak throne (The Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula. The old British name for the Pangkor Island group was the Dindings.^[3]

What is the attraction?

Pangkor (pulau means "island") consists of nine islands. Only two of them are inhabited: Pulau Pangkor and Pangkor Laut.

Underwater World  also known as Underwater World Singapore Pte Ltd, is an oceanarium located on the offshore Singaporean island of Sentosa. Opened in 1991, it has more than 2,500 marine animals of 250 species from different regions of the world. The oceanarium is mostly underground and it is owned by the Haw Par Corporation. The Underwater World's ticket includes admission to the Dolphin Lagoon at Palawan Beach.

Underwater World is also involved in several environmental and educational projects, such as the Living in the Ocean Programme, Ocean Ambassador Programme and the Coral Club.

Recent developments

The 18 km extent of beach from Tanjung Gemuk to Tanjung Tuan is a popular holiday destination for visitors from Kuala Lumpur. Many Singaporeans have invested in holiday homes in and around Port Dickson.

In the 1990s, Port Dickson boomed with new hotels and resorts being planned and constructed. Due to the Asian financial crisis of 1997 however, many of these projects stalled, leaving many unfinished buildings scattered along the Port Dickson coastline. While some of these half constructed resorts are still abandoned, with the improving economy of the 2000s many of the projects were revived and completed.

Port Dickson is also home to many army camps of the Malaysian Army such as Sebatang Karah, Segenting, Si Rusa and Sunggala. ^[3] In September 2009, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak declared that Port Dickson shall be known as "Port Dickson—Army Town" in recognition of her role in the nation's military services.^[4]

Also known as Eagle Square, Dataran Lang is one of Langkawi’s best known manmade attractions, a large sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight. A sight that greets visitors to the island via ferry, the 12 metre-tall statue is one of the island’s most instantly recognizable monuments. 

Located at the southeast corner of Pulau Langkawi, besides offering beautiful views of Kuah Bay, Dataran Lang has beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, making it the ideal place for those postcard-perfect holiday photos. The square is a good place to watch ferries ply across the harbour but plan a trip here early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is at its least intense.

The reddish-brown eagle at Dataran Lang was built as an emblem of the island. According to folklore Langkawi’s name came from two Malay words – ‘helang’ (eagle) and ‘kawi' (reddish brown): hence lang-kawi. 

Adjacent to the CHOGM Park and Taman Lagenda Dalam Langkawi, the monument is also within walking distance of some of the best duty-free shops in Langkawi and the Jetty Point Mall – chocolates and alcohol are especially good buys here.

Warmly endeared, they decided to name the island 'Tioman' after its passing, a portmanteau of 'Tiong' and 'teman', which means 'friend'.There is many things that people can do there such as snorkelling,swimming,walk along the beach,and many more.

It occupies an area of 712 square kilometres (275 sq mi). To the north, its boundary touches that of Kelantan; to the west, it shares part of its border with Perak.

* Avillion Admiral Cove is located in Port Dickson in the state of Negeri Sembilan. It sits in the state’s only integrated marina development, along the coastline off the state and faces the Straits of Malacca. *Since late 2011, it is again possible to dive around Pangkor. Not only you can do short snorkeling trips from the beaches (get your boat and equipment there), but you can go to Pulau Sembilan and explore the marine life which is abundant. What to see? I saw amongst others leopard sharks, stingray, nudibranches, turtles, heck even sea horses!

*Historically, Pangkor was a refuge for local fishermen, merchants and pirates. In the 17th century, the Dutch built a fort in an effort to control the Perak tin trade known as the Dutch Fort. In 1874, it was the location of a historical treaty between the British government and a contender for the Perak throne (The Pangkor Treaty), which began the British colonial domination of the Malay Peninsula. The old British name for the Pangkor Island group was the Dindings.^[3] *Pangkor Island has a land area of 18km^2[2] and is 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) from Peninsular Malaysia. The interior of the island is forested and is home to 65 reptile species, 17 anphibian species, and 82 total herpetofaunal species.^[2]
