16 million people were killed in the Great War, 2 million were German. In the chaos that followed Germany's defeat in WWI which included the Great Depression, 40% of the population was out of work, in an attempt to create more money to pay the reparations of the Versailles Treaty, the government printed too much money which resulted in the collapse of the German economy. This Turmoil left Germany weak and open for being taken advantage of, and that is exactly what happened.

In 1921, Adolf Hitler began to lead a new political party, the Nationalist Socialist German Workers' Party, or the Nazi party. Being a persuasive speaker, he drew large crowds with his speeches of how Germany had only lost WWI because they had been betrayed by "internal enemies." These "enemies" were the Jews, whom Hitler believed were the cause of all Germany's problems. He believed that they were not "pure" and that they dirtied pure German blood.

The Nazis never won majority seats in the Reichstag, but in 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor by Paul von Hindenburg. Hindenburg needed the Nazi's growing popularity for a growing government crisis and thought that he could control the Nazis by exploiting their power like so.
Then, a year after Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, Hindenburg died. By default, Hitler became the supreme commander, the Fuhrer

Today, it's obvious that if Hitler had not persuaded the German public, there wouldn't have been a WWII, so what convinced the Germans to follow Hitler to the very end?
The Germans were not only persuaded by Hitler's charismatic speeches, but also by items given to them. When Jews were taken from their jobs and homes, other non-Jewish Germans could take these open spots. How could they argue? They were given everything they had wanted and more. New jobs meant people were able to provide for their families, and new homes gave those families a roof over their heads. To anyone that sounds like a good deal.w

With the public now on his side, Hitler began to reach for even new heights. Hitler rebuilt the German army, a violation of the Versailles Treaty. Now with huge military power and full German support Hitler began to take over neighboring country Austria, then claimed a region of Czechoslovakia. Wanting to appease Hitler instead of declaring war, Britain and France let him have it, months after this, Germany had seized all of Czechoslovakia.
