He serves Frodo with a loyalty unmatched, serving a double purpose of driving him to destroy the ring and reminding him of the Shire. He enjoys the simple life and I think that is a central theme of the series. He embodies loyalty and his friendship with Frodo is a pure and unfaltering one. In the series his presence is always enjoyable and he is a good character to follow.

Hey you know the scene where she sits next to Bing Bong and lets him talk about his grief and doesn't try to make it better? That scene lives rent free in my head forever. What a profound statement on how no emotion is "bad," and self-actualization comes from accepting ALL our feelings and knowing they all have their place.
