If learners’ culture is not valuating education then individual may have different priorities and learning may not happening (message may not be received). “In some cultures, education is promoted and learning is seen as important (Asian cultures) but in other cultures education may be seen as not needed, even dangerous and is not supported” (Exploring inclusive practices in education, 2021).Depend on learners cultural background they may be motivated, have high aspiration lots of ability and opportunity to learn if learning is promoted in their culture. if there is poolside they some learners may have no access to education at all regardless of their personal aspirations and decisions

Children in care generally have lower educational attainments than other students. However, children in need (those experiencing serious family problems and requirement of social work support whilst living at home) make less educational progress than the children in care.

This review found that children who were in need, did not have high expectations of their future (educational, career). This means they can fall victim to the self fulfilling prophecy, where an individual acts in a way that confirms the low expectations.

The disciplinary procedures in schools can impact on the needs, aspirations and approach to learning of students. When students display challenging behaviour and they are not supported in the correct way, they are often managed using exclusions or isolations. This can cause segregation from their peers, and label them as the 'naughty student'. This negative experience of school can impact their approach to learning and how they see themselves.
