Read through the learning and teaching strategies presented in PYP: From principles into practice/Learning and teaching/Concepts/Supporting conceptual understandings/Promoting and modelling conceptual understandings, (p.13-14). You may also know of other strategies and tools that can be used to support assessment of conceptual understanding.

Add your strategies the Padlet. Give a brief description of the strategy (maybe share a link to an external site if this is available) and explain why you think this strategy would work well in informing next steps for learners.

I always start a new unit my deconstructing the central idea. We underline verbs, box actions, and we draw or write any words that come to mind when hear those words. Students are then able to make connections from prior units to build on new ideas. We also always create we wonder questions and revisit them throughout our unit. If we aren't able to answer a question throughout the unit, I encourage students to be inquirers who research those questions.

Once we have our big idea and have asked questions, then we begin making connections to the big idea. For example, learning when learning about the Revolutionary War, our big idea was conflicts cause revolutions. We dug deeper into what conflicts were by looking a Disney movie clips that portray different conflicts and students created a chart and built on that chart throughout the unit. Students make great connections on conflicts and revolutions across are subjects.
