A series of projects that my school has implemented in recent years has concerned quality control related to food products. One of these concerned the quality of olive oils. 12 students attending the fifth year of the specialization course in Chemistry and Materials, aged between 17 and 19, were involved. A good exercise would be to calculate the amount of food of the refrigerator they throw away, making them think about their impact on statistics. Also, they could calculate the amount of Energy they're throwing away, and the amount of people could eat with all the food they're wasting.

One area that I have recently been addressing to and deepening in my natural science lessons is bio-economy and the search for innovative methods related to the problem of depletion of food resources for the whole of humanity. To this end, I propose research on vertical farming and indoor crops. With my 5^th grades, I made a lesson that is based on STEM approach four years ago. It was about nutrient contents but it’s not in our curriculum anymore. I made a lesson that includes designing a “diet box”. First students learn nutrient contents, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, mineral and water. I designed an event in the school yard so my 4th grade students could understand the "angles" better. It is an activity that strengthens both auditory perception, coordination skills and mathematic.

I gave them voice commands: "draw three steps forward, turn 45 degrees to the right, 5 steps forward, 135 degrees left." . . . Like this ...

They have a protractor. Finally, everyone looked at the picture. When applying my commands correctly, the correct image is output. When the right photo didn't appear, the subject was better understood.

I asked my students to keep track of what they drank and ate for a week in their food diaries.
They calculated their average amount of water intake individually and as a class. Results showed that most of the students needed to increase their water intake especially in hot weather.
A doctor came to talk about heat wave protection and dehydration or sun stroke.
I told them to use Apps like Goplate or Myfood diary to check if their favourite foods contain balanced amount of nutrients.

I would like to build with my students a solar light bulb, using a plastic bottle full of water. Operation of the solar bulb is based on the phenomenon of refraction.

You will need a big cardboard box. Cut a circle shaped into the lid of the box: it should be large enough for the bottle to pass through it. Then cut off a window-shaped opening on a side of the box. Using a template draw two concentric circles in the center of the square. Cut the inner circle. Insert the bottle into the hole in the cardboard and fill it with water. Place the solar bulb so obtained in the box hole used as a home model and light the neck of the bottle with a flashlight. Observe the solar bulb through the side window in the box.
You will use math to calculate the sides of the square and physics to understand the refraction phenomenon.

With some of my pupils we work on a project of how we can reduce plastic garbage in the ocean. So, we listened to a Chemistry teacher talking to us about how water pollution is harmul for every living creature and watched some videos on the topic. Then children brainstormed some ideas of how we can deal with the porblem. In the end of the project, they had designed some special thick net that would adapt on every on duty ship. OK. I value my competencies of non-formal trainer and I involve my students in a community activity. The aim of this activity is to share joy through a community with a little bit grey life, with people preoccupied with many daily problems and a little bit sad people.

I decided to implement a non-formal method of education called „Delivering life”. We combined literature and civic education competencies of pupils. In Romanian curriculum we have poster as non-formal texts and „Me and the others” as civic competence to develop. Last week my stydents had to build the hystorical tower of our town . They only had a picture. I can do an activity that involves Physics, biology , math and chemistry.
Students are going to investigate the effects of different surfaces on Friction force.
For this they are given different surfaces(rough, smooth, wet, dry, flat, inclined), they are supposed to check which surface has more friction and what can be the best orientation that minimize frictional effects.
The role of friction on bodies is to be investigated and Mathematical shapes are drawn and used the surfaces accordingly. In my STEM class I can ask the students to bring some of the apparatus they use in daily life to class and describe what kind of simple machines they are. I can give bicycle as an example of complex machines and encourage the students to find out what type of simple machines a bicycle has while trying to discover more complex machines they use in daily life.

I find all topics that deal with bionics, enormously interesting. The children in the elementary school are curious and often ask the simplest questions, and adults find it difficutl to answer those questions, may be because we do not quite acquire them ourselves. "Why does an airplane fly, or why does a big ship not sink"? These questions can be answered and explained with observations of nature. I have decided to prepare an activity that conects the roman numbers with the architecture. Many of the historical buildings in Spain are dated with roman numbers and in primary mathematics syllabus we find roman numbers as a content. The buildings do not necessary belong to the Roman times but, anyway, they are dated using roman numbers. In adition, the architectonic style of each historic period has specific caracterisctics that are described in geometric terms. Appart from that, the thing is that in real contexts we can find roman numbers used in an incorrect way so, the activity I have planned is to show some examples to my students in which we can analyze the relation between the year (and the century) and the architectonic style to which the building belongs. That activity requires to identify the geometric forms used in each period, the conection between a year and a century and the rules to transform a roman number in an arabic number.

AS AN IDEA
From my old times studying chemistry, I still remember a question that a professor asked us... Following his curiousity, I would suggest to study much more deeply what will happen to the level of the oceans if the global temperature keeps rising. It looks simple, but it hides a bit of mistery which deserves studying it. The starting point is that if glaciers and the fresh water from Antartctica and Greenland melted down, all that water would go to the oceans, contributing therefore to global rising of the sea level.

However, all that fresh water would decrease the salt concentration of the oceans. So, it would occur the opposite of the freezing-point depression in chemistry.

That means that with lower concentration of salt in the oceans, the Arctic ocean could freeze again more easily and global warming could be slowed down again.

Evidently, we are talking about a process which will take a huge amount of time, but there is a balance, a calculation that is still pending to do.

All this study could include subjects as chemistry, biology, economics, geography, mathematics, physics and even sociology, because of all the changes and challenges that the world will face during the process mentioned aboved.

AS A COMMENT TO A PEER'S IDEA
I have really liked the Karolina's proposal about comparing the transformation from CO₂toO₂made by a tree and the CO₂emitted by us in our daily life (using means of transport, our meat consumption, etc.).

I have found it very interesting and I think that taking that principle into account, more calculations could be done: how many trees we would need in our entire life, what the cost of that would be, studying it by countries, etc.
