In my mind Grendel looks like an ordinary man that walks around with bloody clothes and has an angry look on his face all the time. I chose this picture because this man's facial expression is a perfect representation of how Grendel feels on the inside. Grendel' s humanly characteristics throughout the epic poem makes me look at him as a man instead of an actual "monster" or animal. In the text we learn that Grendel is jealous. In annotation number two it says "The song rings up like the greasy smoke and their faces shine with sweat and something that looks like joy. The song swells, pushes through woods and sky, and they're singing now as if by some lunatic theory they had won. I shake with rage." Seeing the people sing and be joyous caused Grendel to have rage. He wasn't mad at what they were doing; he was mad at the fact that the people were happy and he wasn't.

I decided to post Hasan William's link about darkness. Hasan is in 4th period and i found his post to be very cool and interesting. First and foremost I love his gif picture. The picture itself described darkness very well. He talks about the movie "Mama" which is the movie in the picture. Mama is the ghost that lived with two children who survived a car accident. Before the children could only see her at night before they went to bed. The theme darkness makes him think of what may lurk inside the darkness.

My characterization of Grendel would listen to this song. I look at Grendel as a normal person who's very angry. Grendel hates the people and he hates seeing them happy. This song has a lot of anger it and it describes Grendel's overall feelings. Grendel has been filled with rage basically his whole life. He's always killing people and it proves how much he hates everyone.

J.R.R translated Beowulf. He finished translating Beowulf when he was thirty-four years old. He started learning Old English at a young age. Beowulf was more than likely written in Britain in the eighth century. Beowulf was a prince of the Geats. He was noble, brave and strong. Beowulf and his men took a journey to Geatland on a ship. They heard a sound of a harp in a meadhall and on the outside they saw Grendel. Beowulf itself is the story of the hero's defeat of three successive monsters. The Geats are allied with the Danes and Beowulf and their goal is to kill Grendel.
