NUR HANNANI BINTI HUZAINI
A181758
1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

YES. I was able to achieve the following objectives:
1) Establish and maintain a positive learning environment in the classroom.

2) Increase self-confidence in managing time and responsibilities.

3) Practice an effective communication skill while presenting information to students and staffs.

4) Have an exposure in the field of education and all its facets.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Other than I enjoying teaching and handling various activities like what I have mentioned in the previous padlet, the thing that are the most valuable & memorable for me is during the last day of the posting which is meeting with School Principal, Pn. Sariza binti Md Saleh. During the session, I spent my time to have deep conversation with her and also a self reflection. This session was just not helping me on my communication skills but also improved my critical thinking skills and professionalism when answering her question. Prior to the session I did not expect that I would be bombarded with a lot of questions because I thought it was a short session only. I tried my best to answer her question professionally and control my nervous as much as I could. Lastly, she gave some tips for me and my friend on how to deal with people and also motivation when facing difficulties. She also emphasised about the importance of respect towards our parents and also other people.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

Honestly, being a teacher really taught me about the reality of patience. It not just being patient during teaching the students in the class but also when dealing with a lot of responsibilities that were given to me, frustration when things do not work according to what has planned and so on. For example, when I was given a responsibilities to teach Mathematics subject to Form 1 and Form 2 students, there were a few students that not pay attention to the classes and do not show their respect to the teacher. So, that is when this value need to be practiced in this field.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

Adaptability with new environment. During the first week, I almost felt that I want to quit and found it very difficult for me to carry on this job for the next day. This is because, it was too hectic for me to handle and communicate with students and teachers because I am not an extrovert person. It was difficult for me to initiate a conversation with the teachers when we were having casual chatting. So, throughout this posting, my biggest support systems was my family who always gave motivation for me to start my day. To overcome my problem, I always reflect back the reasons why I chose this field as my elective posting. One of my objective is to improve my communication skills, that is why I think this profession is the most suitable field for me to give myself a try on practicing communication skills. So, I hold into my principle that everything is always seem impossible until it is done. With that mindset, I have adapted well during my 2nd until 4th week and I really enjoyed my posting because it was totally different from what I have thought before because each day gave me a different experience.

5. What can be improved in this project?
- Avoid negative thoughts and overthinking before start doing something.

- Be resilient.

- Focus on our goals.

- Do not get easily give up and always give the best when we are given responsibilities.

WEEK 4

Wafa Thohirah binti Mohd Sabri, A182369,14/8/2023-18/8/2023

1.	Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
I can say that all of my three objectives have been fulfilled. One of my objectives is to observe and learn the structured curriculum of preschool and also how to be a fun and good teacher to the kids. So I think this one month is enough to teach me all those things, for a preschool level, the most crucial thing to remember is the teaching needs to be fun and not stressful at all. Maybe being a fun teacher at first is not easy because there is still an awkward feeling between us but over time it became easier and I could say being a preschool teacher is quite enjoyable. Other than that, my objective is also to learn and share the foundational knowledge with the kids, maybe this is easier compared to another education level like secondary school and so on but I still feel happy as I still can give something to my kids.

2.	What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
The moment I like the most is when I can talk or interact with a pure soul like my kids. They are very honest, likable, charming and adorable. Just thinking about them makes me miss all of them. Even though it was hard for me to control them at first especially to make them disciplined, I already adapted to it. I just enjoyed every single moment with the kids like our playing time, movie time, class time, assembly, and many more. Every second I spend with the kids is worth it because I learned a lot from them about how they think, how they feel, and how their understanding of certain situations. Their curiosity makes me enthusiastic to share things with them.

3.	What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
For me, of course, the most challenging part is when the kids don’t want to listen to my words. I was not surprised at all because they are still young and it is normal to be naughty but ya it was challenging. Other than that, it was difficult for me and other teachers there when there were a few kids have an attachment issue with me. This group of kids who are like to be with me all the time and not with the other teacher. They will cry or not listen to other teachers except me and I believe this issue will solve when I am not there anymore😉. And this issue also has been solved when I became more strict with them, it is just to make sure they are not so attached to me plus respect me as their teacher.

4.	What has worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
The thing that has worked is that I find that my social skill with the young group of people become better. The interaction between me and the kids becomes smoother from time to time. They can understand me as I learned to be on the same level as their thought and the way I choose my word to talk with the kids is also different. The most thing that I am proud of is when the shyest kid in the class also could talk, play and laugh with me at the end, if not they just quiet and ignored me.😢

5.	What can be improved in this project?
The thing that could be improved next time is maybe I can do more fun projects with the kids like visiting, sports, science experiments, or even basic self-defense which is quite important and trending now. I have those ideas in my head but I did not put them out because I was afraid that those stuffs could disturb the preschool planning or records. Maybe to execute all of that things, I need to discuss it with the teachers there earlier and plan it earlier.😀

Syahirah binti Rezwan Eskandar, A182125, Week 4 (1-4/8).

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, overall they were fulfilled. Although it was not perfect, but it was an achievement that deserves a ‘well done’.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

I liked when I was able to contribute to the team whether it was in the form of ideas, helping hands, support etc.

I liked my working environment. Being around the kids brought me so much joy & positivity.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

I was given the opportunity to lead the teaching session twice and I found it was the most challenging part of this project. From the way the lesson should be delivered to ensure the learning objectives successfully conveyed & achieved, the chaos when the kids got distracted & not listening, honestly it was definitely a humbling experience. So much respect to all teachers especially the kindergarten teachers out there.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

Our teamwork. I believe we (me & the other teachers) worked well as a team, had a good chemistry, and everyone has their own roles in the team. It brought me an indescribable amount of satisfaction every time what we worked on as a team worked out well either it was just as simple as working together for the kids’ learning session, or as significant as working together for a huge event that we participated.

5. What can be improved in this project?

Communication. One of the feedback I received from my supervisor was about how I can improve by communicate more with colleagues so we would be able to relate with each other more. Hence, even though this project has come to the end, I would continuously work on my communication skills with the hope that I would get better each day.

If I ever get the chance to lead the learning session again in the future (or any similar circumstances), I want to be able to convey the lesson better - better choice of words used, simple sentences but precise used, interesting & creative approach applied, adequate amount of times to prepare etc. Nonetheless, this project gave me the experience and opportunity to learn more & improve.

Nur Raihana T'ng Binti Mohd salleh Tng
A181687

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

In my opinion, the objectives were fulfilled throughout the elective posting. Firstly, I was able to engage with different environment from that I used to which really allowed me to be out of my comfort zone. I was exposed to be in a school environment as a teacher, and this experience really showed me a snippets of a real working environment and its really challenge some of the social skills. Next, I was able to detect some of the social skills that I was lacking and able to improve them. At first I was really having trouble to interact with the teachers as I was shy and since they all are a bit older than me, the conversation can be a little awkward and difficult to make a connection. However, as time goes by I was able to be more confident and comfortable in making the first step to communicate. Furthermore, I really enjoyed this elective posting. Since I will be out of my comfort zone, I put one of my objectives is to be able to enjoy and treasure this experience. I’m really happy and satisfied with my experience and moments throughout this elective posting.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

What I liked the most about the project is the opportunity given for us to try new thing. This elective posting give me opportunity to experience working as a real working teacher. I am really sure I won’t get this chance anymore and I’m thankful for this opportunity. Furthermore, through this experience, I also can learn more about myself and improve my social skills in a different setting. We know working as a teachers required a lot of social skills such as communication skills and leaderships skill and this opportunity give me chance to experience and enhance them.

3. What have you found challenging about the project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

As a teacher, I still find controlling the class is very challenging especially the lower form classes. I tried many creative way to control them however I think I still need to enhance and practice to control the students. I need to be more stern with them, which I can applied in my daily lives where sometimes I need to be more assertive and confident in my opinions.

4. What has really worked? (Any part in the project you thought worked well)

In my perspective, I think how I handle a conversation with different range of age has been better than before. Through this project, I need to converse with the students (younger age group) and the teachers (older age group). Since I speak to them everyday for 4 weeks, its become natural for me and I am more freely without worrying in talking with them. I know what topics may interest them for different age group. I also started to realize I’m the one who will start any conversation with whoever I met regardless of the age.

5. What can improved in this project?

l Able to take any challenges bravely

l Don’t stress out over something that didn’t happen yet

l Be more confident and assertive in every aspect of live

Navitha A/P Sitambaram
A181427
13/8/2023 - 19/8/2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfiled?
The main objective of my project was to gain more knowledge and insight of how preschool education works and the education system behind it. After completing my elective posting in the field of teaching, I am convinced that this objective is fulfilled at the end of the four weeks posting. This is because, I get to know how teachers should tackle young children. For an instance, using simple language and demonstrating helps to convey a command in a more easy and effective way. Apart from that, I also learned that education for children should be practiced beyond classroom. Children with parents who help them with homework and teach them at home are far more excelled compared to those who does not do active revision at home. Here, I realized that teachers are also responsible in building a good rapport with parents and reporting their progress from time to time. Moreover, educational system for preschoolers also comprises of sports activities as they are also equally important especially for young children. This was seen when annual sports day was held during the second week of my project. Lastly, Malaysian educational system for preschoolers also emphasize on arts and craft activities as they improve children's fine motor skills and creativity. Various arts and crafts were taught in preschool during my elective posting which engages children's sensory skills, coordination, imaginations and creativity.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
I enjoyed working with young children and carrying out various fun activities with them. This includes teaching, playing, storytelling as well as listening to their stories. I loved teaching the older age group students as they were more well behaved compared to the young children. It was easier and exciting to teach them as they pay attention and were focused during the class. I also had fun during the playtime which is usually after the recess. This was the time I get to play with students of all ages ranging from 3 to 6. I loved playing with them with various toys as well as in the playground together despite our age differences. Things gets exciting when it comes to extra curricular activities such as singing, dancing and so on as it relieves not only students but also the teachers who are stressed and tired from a long day of teaching.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The most challenging part of the project was controlling the students and making them to follow commands. This is because these young children were hyperactive and often refuse to stay still and quiet. I had a hard time making them to be quiet so that I could teach. This made me tired and exhausted trying to keep them quiet with my naturally soft voice. Apart from that, the students also kept on complaining about each other and often get into fights. In order to tackle this, I came up with an idea to play a trick game in which students should stay still and quiet when I say the word 'freeze'. I also offered them prizes when they behaved well during my class. This made the class time way more manageable and less stressful for me.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
My way of teaching tackling the children in their studies worked pretty well when they showed some good progress in their examination at the end of the fourth week. This is because I approach each students individually rather than teaching them all together in a group. This allowed each student to learn in their own way and in their own pace as some students were slow learners compared to the others. Apart from that, I also actively revise previous lessons with the students so that they can recall and remember more effectively. I also came up with interesting quizzes and questions during my teaching sessions and gave out prizes to those who did well. This way, the students tend to be more focused during class time and motivates them to do adequate revision back in home.

5. What can be improved in this project?
I should improve my communication skills especially with young children in which I should use simple language and demonstrate on how to do a task rather than explaining verbally. Apart from that, I should also be strict and stern in order to control the young children and make them to follow commands. I also should be more open minded and optimistic as well as determined even when the things does not go as planned.

Final Week as an assistant manager / staff under Celcom Department at MAHA Partners & Co.

Nursyifa Nadhirah Binti Zulkefli
A184001
14/08/23 - 19/08/23

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Following this project, I learned a lot of new things and I was able to accomplish my initial objective. I have been able to improve my communication skills over my four weeks as a collector at MAHA Partners & Co.'s Celcom department. This is because part of my job requires me to speak with customers every day, and in order to do that, I need to have sufficient knowledge on Celcom and use appropriate words so that I can speak confidentially with customers. The second goal I have accomplished is getting experience working with other employees. I worked with fantastic people the entire time, and they were always willing to give me advice on how to interact with the customers and complete forms using software. I also adore how they interact with clients. Each of them uses a different strategy to let clients know about their unpaid bills. In addition, the third objective is to understand the role of assistant manager. I feel very honoured and happy because I was able to assist my Celcom manager greatly in updating the collection amount for each staff member and checking the payment receipts that had been made by customers on the days the manager was absent, despite the fact that there is not much I can do given that the position is quite big for a new employee like me.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
I enjoy it the most when I can help a customer with a query concerning their bills and get them to pay them that same day. When I can update my collections that I have gathered from my customers that day on the office's whiteboard with the other staff members, I am thrilled. It gave me the impression that my efforts that day had been worthwhile and not in vain. Every time I have a satisfied customer, I am also quite thrilled and grateful. When they speak politely to me and make an effort to pay their bills rather than treating me badly, it makes me pray for their wellbeing. I also enjoy making the commute from work to home. Even though it can be exhausting because I have to run to the nearest LRT station after finishing work at 7 p.m and then catch a bus to get home at 9, I am glad I have the opportunity to learn more about Kuala Lumpur's streets and how to use public transport. Apart from that, the fact that everyone on my department is kind makes me very happy. Since our ages are so close, I feel very at ease conversing with them.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
Convincing the customers to explain their bill payments is what I believe to be the most challenging aspect of this project. Since I struggle to persuade people, it is difficult for me to deal with customers who consistently delay paying for any excuse, including a shortage of money. This makes my job rather difficult when they request a payment delay. When I got in touch with consumers who talk rudely and use abusive words, that's another challenge I encounter. When I first encountered such a customer, I was taken aback and on the verge of tears since I did not know how to react. But after speaking with clients in that manner practically every day, I was no longer frightened though I still had a hard time getting them to pay.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
This month, the company experienced certain system issues that made it difficult for every staff member of the team to get in touch with customers and contributed to a rise in the number of collections for our celcom department. But I am thankful and delighted that I can contribute in some small way to getting collections for our department every day. By constantly checking payment receipts from customers to be updated into the system and trying to monitor the system to see if calls are coming in or not, I have also attempted to lessen the workload of my boss who is pretty busy and not in the best of health.

5. What can be improved in this project?
In this project, I think the thing that can be improved is the technique I use to convince customers to explain their bill payment. I am less assertive with them and often give them the opportunity to delay their payment even though their payment due date is getting closer because I am not good at telling them to pay immediately like other experienced staff. I also need to get more tips and knowledge from senior staff since there are still many things that I don't have the chance to find out in this short period of time. However, other than that I am very satisfied with my project. It was a very valuable opportunity in my life. It opened my mind that working as a debt collector is not necessarily bad as in our society's view. I hope more people know that jobs like this exist and are one of the best options if someone wants to improve their communication skills.

Name: Nur Alya Asyiqin Binti Irwan Syarzizi

Matric number: A181505

Date: 3rd – 7th July

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

This week, I am looking back at the goals I set for myself at the beginning of this journey. I'm happy to say that my objectives have been met. One of my goals was to use different skills like making decisions, talking with others, managing time, thinking critically, and teaching in a kids' environment. I can say that I have achieved this objective. I have applied these skills in various situations through my interactions with the children and teachers. Another aim was to learn new things, especially related to Early Childhood Education. This goal has been fulfilled as well. I have gained insights from observing and working alongside the teachers, and I am excited to carry these lessons forward. I also wanted to take on responsibilities assigned by the teachers. Throughout my time here, I've actively participated in different tasks, from assisting with activities to contributing to the learning environment. This experience has shown me the importance of reliability and teamwork. Lastly, I aimed to reflect on my experiences and personal growth in the childcare center. This objective has been met too. Interacting with the children and educators has given me valuable insights into patience, empathy, and adaptability. I am pleased to see that I have met these objectives. This journey has provided me with a fulfilling learning experience and a deeper understanding of working in a childcare setting.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Throughout this journey, there is one thing I have truly enjoyed the most: the smiles and laughter of the children. Seeing their happiness and curiosity every day has been the highlight of this project. Their enthusiasm for learning and play is extraordinary and it is heartwarming to know that I have been a part of their growth and joy. Their innocent questions and endless energy have brought a unique kind of joy to my days and I have cherished every moment spent in their company.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (Any part of the project you found hard to do)

Throughout this project, I encountered some challenges. Spending the whole day with the energetic children occasionally left me feeling tired. It affected my energy levels, making it tough to keep up with them. Consequently, I felt exhausted by the end of the day, struggling to manage household tasks. However, I learned to tackle these challenges through effective time management. Creating a well-organized schedule and ensuring breakfast improved my ability to stay energized and focused throughout the day. This experience taught me valuable lessons in maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

Several aspects of the project have proven successful and satisfying. One highlight was my project in the dining room. I updated the dining area with information about healthy and not-so-healthy foods, aligning with the upcoming theme. This initiative was well-received by both teachers and children. Additionally, building relationships with the children was a rewarding experience. As I bid them farewell on the last day, a sense of sadness overcame me. I feel the deep connection formed with them throughout my journey.

5. What can be improved in this project?

Looking back, I see a few more areas where I could improve for an even better experience. Firstly, I want to communicate more effectively with the teachers to strengthen teamwork. Secondly, I aim to learn and use a broader range of teaching methods that suit children's learning styles. I plan to work closely with the teachers to share new ideas. By doing these things, I hope to keep growing and make a more significant difference in similar places later.

Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes!!
From my side,i think i achieve the objectives that i want before i started my EP.
Throughout this EP,i got the chance to improve my communication skills when interacting with the community and most importantly within the young generation in order to maintain an effective communication.
At the same time,i gain more new knowledge and experience in learning and teaching in educating the young generation.Lastly,it helps me to become more confident in whatever condition that i will face in future and most importantly in decision making.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Honestly, what i like the most about my EP is i get the chance to visit my old school. It brings back my childhood memory.Surprisingly, there is one day, i saw a board regarding the 'important school events 'and suddenly,i saw my friends and I during our school sports day in 2012..It was really heart warming when look at that picture and i cannot believe it is already more than 10 years ago!

-Other than that, the relationship that i will never forget between me,my teachers and the students.Even, its just 1 month but it feels like i really close to them.

3.
A Month Well Spent at Pasti Al-Badar.

NUR AMIRAH SYUHADAH BINTI HALIB

A181133

(14/8/2023 - 20/8/2023)

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, I can safely say that all my objectives of the project were fulfilled. My main objective is to develop and improve my social and communication skills. Throughout my EP journey, I can see a lot of improvement in these aspects and become more comfortable to interact with other people with confidence. Apart from that, I've been aiming to contribute to the development of children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. I also have been aiming to create meaningful connections with them as a kindergarten teacher. Frankly speaking, I believe that I have achieved these goals through engaging many activities with them. Even though it is very challenging, I consider that is also an extremely rewarding experience that helps me to broaden my understanding of working around and with children. I have grown exponentially at work and I feel much better about myself. I am also highly motivated to make something good out of my life and help others as well.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

For me, my heart instantly melts when I walk into the school and I hear the kids start yelling my name. It makes me feel good and lifts my self-esteem, knowing they look forward to seeing me which allowed me to feel supported and welcomed here. I haven't been here for a long time, but I have already started to develop a sense of belonging here, which I am so excited about.

Secondly, I just really love how every little thing is so exciting to kindergarten students. I get to witness the wonder of learning everyday because they have so much wonder about everything. I love seeing joy come out of them when they’ve understood something or remembered something they learned before. This is definitely something that I really enjoyed the most about the whole project.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

I think most of the part that I found pretty challenging is how to manage the kids properly. Handling a classroom full of kids is never an easy task. It takes a lot of patience and efforts to get them to pay attention to the lessons because they tend to get distracted very quickly. This makes me struggling to figure out ways to let things go smoothly.

Another challenging part for me is preparing the right materials for the students. My students' age is from 4 to 6 year old, so it is quite difficult for me to distinguish what type of materials that is suitable to use for every classes according to their level. Thankfully, I've got to learn more about it from other teachers and they're all very helpful and supportive which I really appreciate so much.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

One of my given tasks during my EP at Pasti Al- Badar is to become a coach for netball team. At first I thought that I couldn’t do my best to handle the team due to my lack of experience but then everything turns to be more flexible and easier. I was really grateful that I could handle all my students to cooperate with each other without having any major issues. I'm so glad that my team won the fourth place out of ten teams in the netball match despite us lacking of experience and not having enough time for the training. I'm also very proud of my students for not giving up and trying their best till the very end.

5. What can be improved in this project?

If there's one thing that I can improve in the future, I want to make sure all my students get their chances to be more confident and get involved in the classroom. Some of the students will interact naturally, while some will need teacher's help. I hope I can be more helpful towards them to build their confidence by encouraging them to be more productive in the classroom.

Primary Students Study (Week 4)

Hamizah Aina binti Ahmad Badruddin
A180930
(14/8/2023-18/8/2023)

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?
Yes!
My project's objectives are:
- Gain knowledge on student's behavioral. (After the elective posting, I have understanding on how children behave, interact and communicate among each other. Not every student has the same way of understanding and looking at certain things. Thus, the methods varies when approaching different methods are needed in order to approach the students.)
- To explore working environment. (Now, I have some ideas of how working environment will be since now I already have the experience working. For example, skills such as time management and punctuality that I have learn during the elective posting can be used in the future.)
- To participate in social activity such as handling student's parents. ( I had an opportunity to interact with the children's parents especially when the parents drop off their to the centre. I spend some time asking the parents about the children and also their health.)
- To develop skill on taking care of children. (Although it is my first time taking care of children, however I had gain a lot of knowledge which I can cherish in the future. For example, I have some ideas on how to divert the children when they tend to mood out such as by playing and asking questions.)
Furthermore, I had great time managing children with other teachers where I had good relation with other teachers as well. In addition, every task that is given to me, I manage to complete it successfully. In addition, in the final week, I have done some colouring contest with the students and give prizes to them.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?
What I enjoyed most about the project was the interaction with the children. I felt so fortunate because I got the opportunity to mingle with the innocent children. I realise that working with children is not easy. However, children are so unique that they do not have any jealousy or gossip. This creates a peaceful working environment, which causes me to enjoy working there.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)
The project was quite challenging when some of the children get HFMD(hand, foot, and mouth disease). This is because when one of the children gets HFMD, the centre has to be closed for a few days in order to sanitize and clean. Furthermore, the children also have to be separated and could not sit close to each other. In addition, we also have to advise parents regarding the cases and explain to them that children are prone to get this disease. Some of the parents can understand quickly however, some are not. Thus, it is quite challenging in terms of handling the parents and also overcoming the situation.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)
Interaction between children. At first, I had difficulty in terms of interaction. However, I had overcome it, and day by day I have become closer with the children. To be specific, I remembered all of their names, and the children also remembered my name.
Punctuality. I realise that, day by day, my punctuality has improved. Although at first I struggled with time management, however, towards the end of the elective posting, I gained knowledge on time management, which caused me to be punctual in the workplace.

5. What can be improved in this project?
I can improve in terms of interaction with children. For example, in order to speak with children, politeness and soft spoken have to be included in our communication. This is because the way that children understand things is different from that of adults. Sometimes I keep forgetting that I am dealing with children where I speak to them as in adults. Thus, I have to improve my communication skills with children.
Furthermore, to understand this job, we need to attend courses. This is because working as a teacher is not an easy job. Skills and communication are very important. Thus, attending a few courses could help me become a better educator.

Biology teacher at Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah, Kelantan

Bahiratuz Zulfa binti Baharuddin
A180904
13/8/2023 - 17/8/2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

As mentioned on my elective posting form, 2/3 of the objectives were met. My first objective is to enhance knowledge in biology and medicine. Before deciding which activities to pursue, I conducted some research on a variety of topics, including teaching, and was astounded to discover that the Form 4 biology syllabus is quite similar to what I experienced in medical settings. Furthermore, due to financial constraints, I was unable to participate in a medical project overseas; so, working as a substitute teacher majoring in science and biology was an great opportunity for me to relearn the fundamentals of the human body, which I had almost forgotten about. I can practice using layman's terms and know their curiosity as a society more than enough compared to when I was in UKM, where I mostly interacted with people with medical backgrounds.

My second objective is to improve and learn new social skills. This project has made me stronger and more mature to confront the realities of life. To be honest, despite being an extroverted person, I have a phobia of being on stage and in front of an audience, also known as stage fright. This occurred as a result of some trauma I experienced in secondary school. Thankfully, being a teacher gradually helps me gather my strength and enjoy dealing with a wide range of people.

Unfortunately, I can't make extra pocket money here because no allowance is provided, but I'm grateful enough because living expenses here are much lower than in Kuala Lumpur. For example, we can get at least RM7.00 for a meal in KL, but here we can get as low as RM3.00 for a meal. Therefore, it took me less than RM10.00 to buy a meal per day.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Things that I enjoyed the most here were when I was interacting with students. I still remember teaching the students about mitosis and meiosis. The class was so chaotic as there were a lot of unexpected questions from the audience. I did my best to answer their questions, but if I couldn't, I did my best to get back to them once I did. We also play some quizzes to make the lesson more fun and effective, and at the same time, we can see how much the class can remember.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

I think the hardest part of my EP project is when my supervisor gives me an assignment to teach students the night before the next day. She had a mild fever and cough that prevented her from coming to school, and she barely opened her phone to inform me. For me, it is okay if I only need to handle one class, but handling more than one is a bit exhausting. On that particular day, I had to teach three classes, each with different topics to discuss. I only had a short amount of time to review the topic before delivering it to the student. However, thanks to the situation, it helped me think faster about which topic I should review first.

There was also one time where I had to do extra classes on the weekend where I had to cover two topics with more than 100 students at once. I was so nervous that I could not sleep for two days just to think about it. "I plan, but Allah is the best planner". Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and the students also understood what I taught them.

4. What has really worked? (any part of the project that you thought well)

There are a lot of things that surprisingly worked well for me. But if I had to pick one thing, it would be how I teach them. I just realised that whenever I work on something, I will find the root of the problem and deliver it in the simplest way possible to make students have a clear understanding of that particular topic. I will also try to explain things that they might find harder to understand. For example, I noticed some of the terms used in the textbook were difficult to understand, especially medical terms that confused the student. There’s a part in the textbook where they teach about how the blood pressure increases by connecting the receptors in the aorta, brain, and muscle. They had no idea how those worked; therefore, as medical students, it would be best if someone like me explained such things to them. As a result, they told me that they love the way I teach them. They can understand the topic better and wish that I can stay longer here to teach them.

5. What can be improved in this project?

It was really unfortunate that they had a midterm exam in my second week of posting. So what can be improved here is that I should look into their schedule as soon as possible to avoid such things like this in the future. If I had known this sooner, I would have started my EP project a month earlier to give myself more opportunities and experience tutoring the students and to share knowledge with them.

Padlet Week/Phase 4
Name: Leka A/P Murugaya
Matrics number: A182282
Date: 31/7/2023-4/8/2023

1. Were the objectives of the project fulfilled?

Yes, I am able to fulfill the project's objective. I am incredibly appreciative that UKM gave me the opportunity to learn so much about this profession. The objectives of the project are to venture into new fields other than the medical field, to learn and observe how the children are communicating and interacting among them, to gain life experience of working in a school, to share knowledge with the students and having a chance to become an example or role model to the students. That all of these objectives were accomplished over this 4-week elective assignment makes me very delighted.

2. What have you enjoyed or liked the most about the project?

Spending time with the students at the school was one aspect of the works that I particularly appreciated. I have always wanted to be a teacher, so I'm quite glad for the chance to fill a temporary teaching position at a school. I did everything I could to make the study sessions more enjoyable. I preferred it more when kids asked me questions they didn't know the answers to, and I thoroughly had fun with it. Since they came to me and inquired about becoming a doctor and other things, some students took me as a role model. They were far too curious, so I was overjoyed to respond.

3. What have you found challenging about this project? (any part of the project you found hard to do)

The only thing that was difficult for me was to control the class. The children are greatly playful in primary school, where I was appointed. I couldn't even take care of the class at times because they were making so much noise. I usually have to think of a way to keep the class under my control. I should ask them to be quiet in any way so that no other teachers at the school scold them. Otherwise, I had a great time during these four weeks.

4. What has really worked? (any part in the project that you thought worked well)

One thing that I think really worked well was my supervisor has assigned me to deliver 4 speeches throughout my elective posting. I delivered a series of speeches on the topics of health, cleanliness, and safety. The chosen theme was directly related to the medical field, allowing me to share my knowledge with the students. It was an enjoyable experience addressing primary school students, as they displayed great curiosity and actively engaged by asking numerous questions. I took pleasure in providing thorough answers to all of their inquiries. Throughout my assigned time frame, I delivered a speech entitled "Personal Hygiene Management" during the first week, followed by "Environmental Pollution and Dengue" in the second week. In the third week, I focused on the topic of "Practicing Healthy Eating Habits," and concluded my posting with a speech on "Substance Abuse" during the final week.

5. What can be improved in this project?

One thing that can be improved in this project is to have more activities with the students It can be difficult to find an activity that appeals to all of the pupils in the class at times.
