It adds meaning to the book because if you actually work hard, you are just going to die and not get free. Basically the Nazi's are lying to the Jew's. It makes the readers think that even if they do work hard, they probably still won't get set free. This adds meaning to the book because, they didn't actually fall into a physical trap, it's just saying that they have fell for a trick. The image that is in peoples mind when they read it is like that the German Nazis have tricked them into coming to the concentration camp and that the Jews didn't expect for this to happen at all. It has a strong meaning because they know that they have made a mistake of coming on this journey and that they have fallen for the Nazis trap
