The goal in ones life is to achieve enlightenment, called nirvana, which would end the cycle of reincarnation to allow for those to rest at peace. It affected South Asia because many were already suffering because of their social status and they needed hope to end their suffering peacefully. Buddhism sought converts from any social status with both men and women which became a universalizing religion quick.
