The American Dream is the dreamed reality of a white picket fence, spouse, kids, and a nice 9-5 job that pays well. The difference this dream has with the American Identity; however, is that the American Identity is based in the grit of the people who fought to form this country and to make it better. True Americans identify with George Washington's brave leadership and search for freedom, they identify with the beating heart of the black activists like Martin Luther King and Malcom X. The American Dream is a romanticized ideal of everything that capitalism and society professes is happiness while the American Identity is the endless search for freedom and equality.

TheAmerican Identity is that of true liberty, patriotism, and the willingness to fight for ones desire to live in a country free of tyranny. In addition the American Identity signifies hard work and perserverance with the end goal of raising a family and making a comfortable life for yourself. A true patriot willing to protect their rights as modeled by our founding fathers, is an ideal example of the American identity.

Love the way you're taking this thesis! Though I think that the Dream and the Identity could also potentially be two separate entities as you have perceived them. Though have you considered that they could also be walking hand in hand? Like say a person would have their American dream based off of their American identity? (I don't know if that makes sense if it doesn't then feel free to ignore the last bit!)

The American Dream varies from large beautiful mansions to merely staying alive. Many influences provide for this mix, like in recession, or in wealth. However, above all, cultural diversity stands proud in the melting pot of the nation. The American Identity is such a broad, impossibly unique thing, that it affects each individual dream. From migrant workers of the 30's, to the immigrant workers of today, there is no one definition of American, let alone what the American Dream entails.

The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals (democracy, rights, liberty, opportunity and equality) in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, as well as an upward social mobility for the family and children, achieved through hard work in a society. How I define American identity is living in the land founded by both political and religious leaders, and being part of the American culture. As Americans we are viewed as the abolitionist who fights for what we believe is just. During the founding years of our nation we were led by thoughts of both the radicals and constrictive, religious and political leaders.
