Hamilton explains the events that took place in her life; growing up in Hawaii, learning how to surf, going to surf competitions, and eventually getting bit by a shark. As a result of the shark bite, Hamilton lost her arm and was unable to surf for almost a year. When she recovered, Hamilton began having balance issues, leading to her not being able to surf properly. At this point, Hamilton said she thought about quitting but decided not to. Hamilton continued training for a few years before returning to surf competitions. Hamilton later went on to win several nationwide and regional competitions. Soul Surfer has inspired me to learn how to be persistent and to have hope. This leaves her to be severely sick and even close to dying. This movie has made me realize that I should cherish and live in the moment. This movie is has an existentialist theme because it emphasizes the attitude of the young girl after contracting the disease. Instead of being depressed, the girl chooses to make the most with her situation.
