Tradition therefore requires that you wear a "March" bracelet so as not to be burnt by the sun. The same custom existed in the Byzantine time. But the beginning of the custom dates back in Greek antiquity. Τhere are testimonies that the ancient wrist bracelets were red and white in order to avoid the evil. All girls on March 1st tied around their wrist, a bracelet of red and white yarn. They were wearing it until the end of the month, and then they used to take it off and hang in the rose petals. So they believed that they would have red cheeks like roses. In other places, they tied it to the candles of the Resurrection to burn or put it on the lamb that was spinning on the spit on Easter day. Nowadays both girls and boys wear "March".
