The hypocenter is the point under. The epicenter of the Tangshan earthquake is at 39.6* N and 118.2* E. The epicenter is found by measuring the time between P and S waves then converting that into a distance and doing the same 2 more time s and triangulating the distances. P and S waves are surface waves.( similar to ripples in water). P waves are primary and weaker and S waves are secondary and stronger.( S waves are slower)

It had the most amount of deaths in 400 years. The quake collapsed 85% of Tangshan's building. Bad soil liquefied and buried entire neighborhoods. There were over 240,000 casualties.
