One new thing I learned about Nya  is she is feeling guilty because her sister Akeer is sick with cramps and stomachache because of drinking the dirty water.

In the text it states, "Nya had been annoyed by all the whining. Now she felt guilty,for she could see that she no longer had enough strength to complain.".

The author included this information about the character because we would not know how she would feel about her sister getting sick.

If we didn't know this information about the character, the story would be different because if you should have not said she feels guilty than what is she feeling happy sad or others so this is why this information we should know about.

A similarity between Salva and Nya is they both have to go through almost the same thing where both are in danger with nothing.
