He has to do with the Civil War because when he was elected, 11 southern states seceded from the Union and the war began. He freed the slaves in the south in the Emancipation Proclamation. He led the North to victory over the South during the war.

This was the site of a very famous and deadly battle during the Civil War. It lasted for 3 days and served as a turning point in the war. Abraham Lincoln dedicated a cemetary at the site where 51,000 soldiers died & gave his famous Gettysburg Address here.
