Brian-“MTSS is not designed for consideration in special education placement decisions, such as specific learning disabilities. MTSS focuses on all students in education contexts.”

I chose this piece of evidence because I love how it mentions how the MTSS is not only a framework that will place students in a special education class. This framework is not meant to focus strictly on specific learning disabilities that students may have. This framework is meant to support all different types of students within the general education system. MTSS supports students within general education by offering a tiered intervention system that meets students' needs. At Tier 1, all students receive high-quality, research-based instruction. For students who need additional help, Tier 2 and Tier 3 provide increasingly targeted and individualized interventions to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Virginia-”CDE’s RtI2 processes focus on students who are struggling and provide a vehicle for teamwork and data-based decision making to strengthen their performances before and after educational and behavioral problems increase in intensity.”

The saying, “It takes a village to raise a child” doesn’t just apply to parenting but also to education. In the educational system every student comes with a variety of unique backgrounds, traits, strengths, and struggles. This being said, it is vital in the educational realm for not only the teacher but the educational staff members as well to work as a village to recognize and support each student, especially the individuals that are struggling. I chose this quote because it highlights the significance of forming an effective “village” to help strengthen the academic and behavioral performances of students that are struggling. Additionally, CDE’s Rtl2 techniques emphasize early identification and intervention, allowing for proactive, data-driven decision-making to address issues before they become more severe.

Fernando-“MTSS offers the potential to create needed systemic change through intentional design and redesign of services and supports that quickly identify and match the needs of all students.”

MTSS is important because it helps schools make big changes to ensure every student gets the support they need, whether they are struggling, excelling, or need extra help. It brings together different programs, like special education, support for English learners, and gifted programs, into one system so no one is left out. By planning and adjusting these supports, schools can meet students' academic, behavioral, and social needs. For example, teachers and staff work together to use screening tools to spot problems early and provide help right away. MTSS is proactive, focusing on long-term success for all students, instead of just reacting to problems as they come up.

Carson-“MTSS process has a broader approach, addressing the needs of all students by aligning the entire system of initiatives, supports, and resources, and by implementing continuous improvement processes at all levels of the system.”

The reason as to why I chose this quote is because of the importance MTSS is for students. MTSS is a continuous build off of Rtl^2. They both possess the same components, however Rtl^2 is just a small snippet of MTSS and accumulates the information for each student. “Through universal screening, data-driven decision making, problem-solving teams, and focusing on the CCSS” Rtl^2 is able to be composed and MTSS is able to “address the needs of all students by aligning the entire system of initiatives, supports, and resources, and by implementing continuous improvement processes at all levels of the system.” MTSS supports all students including high achieving students.

This quote signifies the objective of MTSS by providing systematic change that supports a child and their individual needs. The goal is to meet the needs of each student based on their individual needs so educators must be flexible and adjust to the students level of learning to take into account their strengths and weaknesses. Intentional design is an important part of MTSS because of the systematic accommodations/resources that are provided to help and support students regardless of the tier that they learn. It is important that learning is equitable and serves all students regardless of disability. MTSS properly evaluates students and gives them expectations that they can be helped by educators and other child care professionals.
