         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>August 6, 1945- Hiroshima</li><li>August 9, 1945-Nagasaki</li><li>In order to force the surrender of Japan, the Americans dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.</li></ul><div><br></div><div>These bombing mark the first (and only) time anyone has ever used atomic weapons as a means of warfare, and this event would go on to allow the Russians to gain nuclear technology which started the nuclear arms race.</div><div><br></div><div>The theme of this event is politics and power, as it was a way to end the powerful reign of JApan, and also showed the power of the U.S.A.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>November 25, 1947</li><li>10 members of the film industry were cited for contempt of congress for refusing to testify before the HUAC</li><li>The HUAC were suspicious that these directors and writers were expounding communist propaganda.</li><li>They were each charged with a maximum 1 year jail sentence and an $1,000 fine.</li></ul><div><br></div><div>This event showed the fear of the spread of communism at the time, and led to many blacklistings within the film industry in the years to come. </div><div><br></div><div>This is an example of American Identity because people were being blacklisted for violating their American Identity, and supporting communism.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
