The world's population is increasing rapidly, we must improve the food crops to produce more food, so that we can overcome starvation. Secondly, improved crops produce the yield high in quality. For example, the Musang King have yellow flesh, the flesh is more thicker and more delicious than other. Thirdly, improved crops might have resistance to pest and diseases. When crops have the certain resistance, farmers are no need to apply the pesticide on their crops. Farmer always want their farms have high productivity to prevent the loss. Planting improved crops make their farms reach the maximum level of productivity. Lastly, improved crops also give the maximum profit to the farmers. Farmers have to bear significant cost when it comes to controlling pest and diseases. Thus, this cause the rising prices of crop produces for consumers. One way to combat this is by genetically modifying crops that could resist common pests and diseases.
For medical purposes
Certain crops have been proved to cure certain diseases (ie. Cats' Whisker). Cats' Whiskers can be used by patients with kidney and wastes diseases. Hence, it provides an alternative to natural medicine instead of chemical synthetic medicine which is a better alternative for it is less harmful for human kidney to flush off natural medicine compared to synthetic medicine.
