My character has changed so much over the course of my book. When I first started reading, Alyssa Scott was known as Jane Doe. She wouldn't speak and she showed no emotion. She trusted no one and was very on guard. Alyssa put up a wall so no one could get in. Once two and a half years passed Falon, the person in charge of lengard, told Alyssa that she would be meeting with Landon Ward once a day. When Alyssa first met Landon she had no intention of softening or letting him in but that changed. The first meeting was very refreshing for Alyssa because all they did was read and he treated her with only kindness and respect. Landon even called her by a nickname only the two knew about and shared. Eventually little by little Alyssa began to let herself feel again. When Alyssa got hurt badly by Vanik Landon Ward took her into his house to heal. It is there where she met her best friend Cami and began to become close to her trainer Enzo. All these realationships showed Alyssa that human interaction is important and she realized how much she missed it. Alyssa smiled for the first time is two years at landons house which was huge for her. A few days after that she met Landon and Cami's family. The little kids made her so happy that she laughed. After a few more days spending time with everybody she began to let herself relax. It was after the accident, when one of the kids jumped out into the street that she spoke for the first time in two and half years. Alyssa was told about her powers and started training. Her training only made her stronger. She was always ready to protect the ones she loved. Alyssa went from a stiff guarded girl to a strond, brave womon in a matter of days. 

" I've managed to shut them all out for so long. to just let them do their jobs and be done with it. I haven't cooperated, but I haven't resisted."

" I do what I'm supposed to do but nothing more. I'm functional but bland. I survive, but I don't thrive. That's the life I've choosen to live. It's how I stay safe and how I keep others safe from me. Or at least, it was, until Ward came along with his prophetic nickname. Without me being able to stop it. I've been thawing."

The author is telling us to be careful with who we tust. When Alyssa Scott arrived at lengard she was told that she had to follow a strict schedule. Alyssa would go to Dr. Mannings office in the morning and he would make sure she was ok and in the right state of mind. Dr. Manning was a counsler. After she would go to Mannings office Alyssa would have to go to vaniks lab. There he experimented on her and put her though alot of pain. Alyssa always knew that there was something wrong wtih Vanik but what she didn't know was that Dr. Manning was working with him. Alyssa was told very false information about the remnents from Dr.Manning. Being told this information made her really skeptical of the remnants, it took some time for her to figure out what were the truthes and wheat were the lies. I think that the author is trying to warn us about the danger of power. When power is put into the wrong hands bad things happen. Vanik planned and used his days experimenting and harming innocent humans just so he could take over the world. My author might be trying to warn us about our governement and our system. She might be telling us that we need to be careful who we choose to lead us. We want someone in charge who will guide us and not lose control.

One of the main aspects of a dystopian society that you can find in whisper is that there is a fight for power and control. Inside lengard Falon runs the facility but what everybody doesnt know is that Vanik has plans to overthrow him and takeover the world by becoming a creator himself. I feel that in most dystopian novels there is a someone always in need for the control. There is also many secrets that you find out later in the book but in the beginning your left to make your own assumpians. Another aspect that pertains to my novel is that is has unnatrual abilitys. No one in the real world can speak words and have them come alive but that is exaclty the kind of thing the whole book is based on. I think the author is trying to tell us to beleive in our self and become more confident. The whole book Alyssa was so scared to push the boundaries because she was scared someone was going to get hurt. It was important that she followed the rules and believed in what she could do. Once she started to become more confident Alyssa helped many people. Alyssa wants to change the system of lengard. She wants to be free and normal again. Alyssa wants to change how she and the other new speakers are treated before they learned about what they could do. The new recruites were tortured. They followed a very strict and boring routine. Altough that part was hard she knew she needed the training that came after. She wants to get rid of vanik. I believe that Alyssa Scott wil fully succed in doing so. 

" All along it was Vanik who wanted revenge against the government, right from the very beginning and still after all this time. And now that desire for vengence has morphed into something more- he actually wants to take over the world. "

In the Odyssey the characters all had specail ability's. In my book there is a big group of people with special ability's called speakers. Like the Odyssey they have different ability specific to them. Speakers can put power behind their words to make things appear or happen. In Whisper the most powerful speakers are creators. Creators have no limits to what they can do. Destroyers are next in line and they can destroy any harmful or dangerous words being said. They're other not as powerful types as well such as speakers who can heal physically and emotionally, protecters, and munipulators. There are many others beyond this list. In the Odyssey many heros have specific elements that they are in control of. in Whisper, llke the Odyssey there is one main hero that has the power to save the world. Alyssa Scott is the hero in my book but in the Odyssey the hero is Odysseus.

Jane found out what she is and Langards side of what happend and who the speakers are. She was told that she will stay at lengard and continue training with ward to learn control. She is ok with that because she knows she has no other choice. Jane is also excited because she can learn how to talk without hurting anyone. Jane does resist though. She resists telling anyone her name even though she can talk. It is her way of keeping something thats hers. The other group of speakers, the Remnants are resisting lengard. They know the secrets that lengard is holding. Vanik is running secret projects. He is trying to get his powers back. Vanik is conducting extreme tests on everyone then what is needed. When he fails he hurts hundreds of inncont people. The remnants have been watching Jane and they know what she is capable of. The Remnants filled Jane in on what they know and with her help the plan on stopping Vanik and keep him from hurting innocent humans. Jane's real name is Alyssa Scott. Only the Remnants know this.

In what ways do the common ideas effect your characters choices or actions? 
Whisper uses the common ideas of Personal Freedom, Self-Responsibility, and Powerlessness. Personal Freedom is a big one. As the years dragged on Jane Doe lost sight of herself. She saw herself as a monster and one who had no purpose in the world. Being locked in Lengard doing the same things over and over she got into a boring routine that made her lose what it is like to live. Once Jane or better known now as Alyssa discovers the truth she can now almost remember all the joys of life. Alyssa wants nothing more than to be free in the outside world and to be able to talk freely. Self-Responsibility is also a important common theme. Alyssa has been so careful not to let down her guard because she knows that it is hard to trust others. She finally lets down her guard around her trainer ward but she later learns he was playing her. In the end it was the best thing to happen because he showed her who she was. Instead of the caring ward Alyssa once knew she got the stone cold ward who doesnt care about her like she though he did. Alyssa has also been betrayed by Manning who has looked after her by councling her. Manning even told her about the remnants, although he said they were dangerous. She learns to trust the remnants, They knew Alyssa for years before she enterend Lengard. Alyssa Scott knows she has to be careful when dealing with people because they are not always who they made out to be. Powerlessness is a common theme that shows throught the entire book. Alyssa always brings herself down. She thinks she isnt as powerful as people know she is. She feel as though she has to always rely on others for protection or guidance. When in reality Alyssa Scott is the most powerful human in the world.

My main characters name is unknown. They call her Jane Doe becuase she hasnt talked in two and a half years. Even when she did start talking she wouldn't tell her anyone her name. So she is known as subject six-eight-four, Jane Doe, JD,or chip. Jane Doe is a really strong girl. She is eighteen and has gone through two years of torture both physically and mentally before she finally got answers. Jane has really bright blue eyes, long brown hair and is described as very beautiful. She doesn't see herself as pretty though, she sees herself as a threat to the world and only wants to be normal. She cut herself off from having any personal realationships so she wouldnt hurt anyone but that changed after she met ward and her best friend Cami. She longs to have human connections again. It is slowly coming but she is learning to accept herself. I really like my character because she is a good person and she is very interesting. everytime you read you learn something new about her and what she has gone through.

One of my topics is Being yourself. Jane Doe didn't know the truth about herself, she believed she was the only one that had the special ability to speak words that came to life. Jane thinks of herself as a monster. Throughout the book she realizes that there are two generations and that she is not alone. She realizes that she has to believe in herself to acheive what she needs to do and become stronger. When she learns that their are more poeple like her she becomes more confident and not so alone.

In my book it is more of a cooperate control under the facilities but not all over the world. There are two groups of speakers. One group lives under a bigger grovernment owned facility called Lengard that houses many speakers that are training to be soldiers. They are catagorized as The Exodus generation and the older group as the Genesis generation. But there is a second group that lives free in the world. They are called the Remnants. The remnants are known to be dangerous and not safe. The rest of the world does not know speakers exsist so they have no control over them. The control is within the groups and the leaders.
" The Remnants threaten everything we are trying to acheive here. Once their numbers are strong enough, I fear it will only be so long until they reveal themselves to the world in a way that no one will forget, And in a way that no one will recover from." Jane Doe feels trapped inside her own body. She thinks of herself as a monster and she doesn't want to hust others. For over two years she has not talked because she fears of what might happen. She is struggling to escape her mind but also from the years of torture she has gone through in her time spent in Lengard. Jane now thinks this is normal but still struggles with her thoughts and her normal human emotions. If she slips up it could turn out horribly but when she learns how to control her power of words she can live a normal life once again.

In my book the setting is not very specific because it takes place in a underground government facility. I learned later that once you got above ground you were in the heart of Sydney. The entrance to get into Lengard is in a tower. After you enter it becomes very confusing after that. The higher tier is where they test and torture potential human speakers. they potentials live in cells. Also on this floor the older generation of speakers live. They get their own private rooms. once they prove themselves the subjects will begin training. The training takes place deep down beneath everything else. This is also where the newer speakers live. they live in bunks. Everywhere in Lengard their is intense security and everything is locked up.
