         <title>Social Presence</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>“Social presence can be defined as being connected and interact with other human beings as “real people” through the medium of communication being used. Therefore, a “good” social presence environment is the one where learners express their emotions and feelings and interact with one another in a way that promotes their learning.” (Garcia-O’Neill, 2016)<br><br></div><div>In order to promote social presence online, one must:<br><br></div><div>1.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Feel comfortable in sharing feelings, ideas, or experiences with students and peers that will help to promote learning and engagement.</div><div>2.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Provide feedback either instantaneously in communication, discussion, or by video.&nbsp; Students thrive and learn from their mistakes through positive and instantaneous feedback.</div><div>3.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Have digital portfolios be an option to put all work videos, and images all in one place.</div><div>4.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Model positivity and respect for all through communication logs and discussions.&nbsp; Both educators and students should be open-minded when reading what peers have to say. &nbsp;</div><div>5.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Be aware of the individualized needs of each student and the type of accommodations needed for them to academically strive online.</div><div>6.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Use a variety of online tools and resources to balance out the means of using these different tools.&nbsp; Like this, students have a great understanding and knowledge of various resource tools.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Keeping students engaged online:<br><br></div><div>~The first key is to see what the students already know about the topic of discussion.<br><br></div><div>~Ask students what their goals or expectations are for the class.<br><br></div><div>~Keep in mind the student goals and plan some lessons that correlate with the student goals.<br><br></div><div>~Inquire about what the students like as ideas that will drive them to be actively engaged and motivated to learn.<br><br></div><div>~Challenge their minds to think.<br><br></div><div>~Share ideas and real-life experiences.&nbsp; Connecting with students will show them how much you care as an educator.&nbsp; This will inspire them to learn.<br><br></div>]]></description>
