I went to UT-Austin. Hook em! I have a Bachelor of Journalism degree from UT. (One of only a few colleges in the world to give a BJ degree.) I'm originally from Texas and have lived all over the state.

I have a MFA in Creative Writing from Northern Arizona University.

I got my first masters at TCU - in journalism. Fun fact, I lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area twice, several years apart - moving here both times for jobs with CBS News. I got my MSJ at TCU during my second "stint" there. The day after I graduated, we moved to Arizona.

Schitt's Creek is my fav TV show!

My favorite show is Schitt's Creek. I went to locations in around the Toronto, Canada area where they filmed the exteriors a few years ago ;) My fav character is Moira Rose. Catherine O'Hara is incredibly talented. The writing and acting in this show is superb! I 100% recommend it. Fun fact: I made friends all over the world thanks to this show!

I'm a writing professor here at the University of Michigan!

This is my 5th year teaching at UM. I moved with my family - 3 kids, husband + dogs & cats- in the midst of the pandemic across the country from Flagstaff, Arizona. It was 24 crazy hours on the road spread out over 3 days.

I love The X Files and had always wanted to go to Vancouver, where it was filmed. (And finally did in 2023)

After Schitt's Creek, The X Files, which used to be shot in Vancouver, Canada, is my other fav show of all time. So many shows and films are shot in Vancouver because its architecture has a lot of variety and can "pass" for almost any city. Loved it there and had the best sushi I've ever eaten there too.

Went to Portugal this summer... going back in May!

I'm in the midst of getting dual citizenship here! My grandma was born in the Czech Republic but moved away due to war in the late 1930s. I've been to Prague before (way back in 2001), but never to the town she was from, but plan to one day!

I used to live in Chicago, back when I was a TV news producer. I worked for two TV stations here plus a very short stint for The Jerry Springer Show. My hubby is also from here! He proposed while we rode the ferris wheel on Navy Pier.

Went to Paris in 2024 to celebrate 20th wedding anniversary.

I went to Paris in the summer of 2024 about a month before the Olympics were there. It had been 25 years in between my trips there. My kids have all taken French and wanted to visit here as their first trip to Europe. I love museums, so the Louvre and Musée d' Orsay were highlights + the food. Also enjoyed buying antique books from sellers along the Seine. We also went to Disneyland Paris! I'd been there before when I went to Paris in 1999 with my sister. Back then it was called Euro-Disney.

I got married in Scotland... and just went there this winter too!

My husband and I did a destination wedding in Scotland! We got married in a castle (turned hotel). We just went back to Edinburgh over the winter break too! It's one of my favorite places.

Best salad I've ever eaten was in Füssen, Germany.

Went to Füssen, Germany to see the Neuschwanstein Castle (inspiration for Disneyland's castle) in the Bavarian Alps. Turns out I had the best salad I've ever eaten here. It was simple with just lettuce dressed with the most amazing anise-like dressing. Simply delicious!

Coolest restaurant I've ever been to was in Zermatt, Switzerland. You could only get there by hiking. We rode up the cable car to the top of the Matterhorn, visited a museum built out of the glacial ice and then hiked down thru the Ricola herb garden and came upon the restaurant!

Lived in NYC while interning

As an undergrad, I interned for CBS Evening News with Dan Rather in NYC. It was cool living here and getting this opportunity. I was offered a job to stay but turned it down to finish my degree and instead took a job at the local TV station back in Austin I had interned at the semester before. It was crazy working a full time job working overnights and weekends and taking 18 credit hours. It was kinda a blur, but I have no regrets.

Jamaica is the furthest south I've ever been. I went with my mom, grandma, and sister when I was a kid. My mom loves beaches!

Furthest north I've ever been

Furthest north I've ever been is Inverness, Scotland. Yes, this is home to the legend of the Loch Ness monster. Yes, I did do a fun touristy guided boat ride to "search for her!" One day, I'd like to get even further north in the world and check out Iceland! Did you know Reykjavik is only a six hour direct flight from Detroit!!

Fav hiking trail: Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, AZ

The West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona, Arizona is my favorite hiking trail. I used to go here several times a week. It's actually been ranked one of the top 10 trails in the world. The trail edges along and crosses the river multiple times. You can stop in a swimming hole to cool off, sunbath on a giant boulder, or just relax and enjoy unspoiled nature!

This winter break, my family and I went to Amsterdam for the first time. The Van Gogh Museum there was one of the best museums I've ever been to!!

Furthest east I've ever been

Vienna, Austria is the furthest east I've ever been. On this same trip, my friend and I went to Salzburg, Austria and danced around in the mountains "Sound of Music"-style, while enjoying tour of the sights from the film. We even stayed at a hostel themed after the movie.

Never enough time in London

This winter break, we took the Eurostar train to London from Amsterdam via the "Chunnel," which I've always wanted to do. We went to see The Hunger Games brand new play & saw the Hadestown musical. My grandma grew up in London and I was excited to get to stop by the place she use to live and where she got married too. It was 20+ years between my visits to London. There's never enough time here, as there's so much to do.
