Today at EBAC we had the mission to display our collections. Since I've spent last night thinking about my presentation, I came up with my printed "trees and buildings" magazine already done. This is what I most struggled with because the point of whole day was to think new ways to show our work and I had already made up my mind. All of the feedback I recieved was about people complementing my presentation, so I had little to do. I felt guilty for not chanching much when Michael asked us to upgrade our exhibition, so I really hope the next days I can show some progress with what I brought to the foundation studio today.

Today at EBAC we had to draw new ways to see our collections. My aproach was to use different textures and materials to the photos I took, so I've spent my time using green ink, tape, charcoal and wire. I tried to recreate the silhouettes of the buildings and trees and I've found my end results only satisfatory.

I had a really hard time today because my schedule management really caught me off guard. At the time of 15:30 I didn't finished the last of my four approaches, which was the charcoal building. I got good feedback about my work from my friends and tutor, however the struggle came from my lack of planing. Next time I could find one picture and reproduce it on different ways, bigger and more inventive. I had to took my unfineshed task home and it actually turned out great, but I understand that the mission was problem solving and thinking. Next time I will know how to proceed first.

Today at EBAC we worked all day on different ways to expose our collections. We used our sketchbooks to scribble some ideas on how to change the ways we previously displayed our work. I had a lot of fun because I realize now that the tutors are teaching us how to have and perfect our ideas and how to manage the time we have.

Firstly I organized my pictures by composition, similarity and colour. Then I made a little "pending tower" with the collection and at the end of the day we went to the mezanino to create our last presentation. The tutors gave me advice on how to display it better, think about the relation of what I was showing and it turned out great. Next time I will think more about how to organize the information so the viewer understands perfectly what my message is all about.

1. Decision: make a grid with different combinations. How: searched what some of the pictures had in common. Consequences: I had to explain what the combinations were.

2. Decision: organized a pending tower of pictures. How: the idea was to simulate the shape of an building. Consequences: it led me to other ideas.

3. Decision: make an "building archive". How: I had to find a way to display the pictures over a fence, so I glued some of them with tape (using my combinations and organizing it from brighest to darkest picture) and made a curtain with the rest of the photos. Consequence: Carlos adviced me to separate the curtain from the combinations so the viewer dont't think that there is a relation between the two pieces.

Today at EBAC we had a very busy day. With our tutors we went to the printing room and used the whole morning/afternoon to apply new techniques to our collection. My choice was to explore the shapes of the buildings of my photos so I used one of those as a drawing to make a mold and a scratched surface to the inking process.

I liked the results I had because there was space to experiment with a lot of textures and different ways to reproduce my image. I just wished we could have more time to choose and think about what we would like to do, but I underestand there was a special lecture at the end of the schedule. I succeed on deciding super quickly what I was going to do and that worked to my benefit the whole day. Then, at home, I created some combinations with the work that I made and planned a little presentation on my sketchbook, exploring different takes of my collection.

At the lecture we heard a lot about how creativity is not a god given talent and need to be practiced every day. We were encoraged to try a lot and make mistakes so we always have a great number of ideas. Sketch and write a lot is always a must.

At night there was the first live drawing section and it was a lot of fun. The tutor adviced me to pay more attention to the details, lenght of sholders and hands, what is next to what, so everything is where it belongs. The proportions were right and next class I will try a smoother pencil to achieve stronger lines

Today at EBAC we had to make our final presentation to the collector's project. I realized it was useless to plan it the day before because when arriving to the foundation studio I had to share the space with the rest of the students. When displaying my work I had to reorganize what I brought and I would only bring more stuff so my concept was even clearer.

The feedback I got from my friends was good, but they adviced to show more about my process and how I achieved my results. Aline liked so much my Yggdrasil's piece that she wanted to see all my work around that concept. I agree with her because I would have had even more fun working with it!

On the next project I would try to bring more of my personallity to my work and stay extra hours if the results I want request more time.

Despite not LOVING my final display, I think that this project was good for texting stuff and experimenting with materials. Even more, I now understand how a day at EBAC works and how I must work next week to achieve more.

Today at EBAC we started the Moveable Type Project. We began forming our names with objects, then searched all the letters of the alphabet around the school and finished the day drawing some variations of our selected type.

I solved my problems by paying attention to the shapes of the letters. My train of thought was based on Paula's Scher quote that typography is drawing with type, so that was my initial instinct. I always begin my sketches with basic forms. That worked well for me since I was given an G and it can be achieved my drawing different circles. My variations would have worked better if I made some previous research, so that is the first thing I'll do when I get home.

Today at EBAC we used two serigraphy techiniques. I brought my upper and lower case Gs and the research I did yesterday really payed off. I loved the results off my type and the font I invented.

The only thing I didn't like was the precision of the serigraphy (made with the rolls). Next time I would experiment making the mold with a harder kind of paper and use the lighter colours first. Besides, if we had more time I would wait the ink to dry instead of making all at once. Of course, the quantity of ink is something that else to pay attention. I could easilly make more at home and take more time to make more variations.

The failed outcomes were the ones that I used too much ink and those that had ink mixing a lot with one another. These needed to be done with more care, precision and time. I will keep everything, glue to my sketchbook and make a polished presentation with what I liked.

Today at EBAC we had a very busy day. The class starded earlier and we heard Claudio Rocha talking about typography. It was really inspiring because he showed us a lot of great artists that created beautiful work and enhanced his knowledge that lead him to create Oficina Tipográfica. The content for this lecture will be added to my Research File.

Later we created our own font during a short period of time. I couldn't finish it for I had no strategy to make this assignment quickly and really needed to put my hands on something good on my own eyes. I had no problem to stay more in the school and take my time to enjoy myself and not go home frustrated. I know that time management is a issue and I will train myself to do better everyday, but I feel that I already progressed a little bit since foundation started.

I woke up still in doubt on how I was going to do it, but as soon as I entered the school I knew that the decision had to be made quickly. Since the concept of my typography is shape, I made my G focusing on the round shape that helped me continue with the ideas of all my week.

I bought small balls and with wire they were all stuck together. Daniel gave the idea yesterday to focus on the roundness of my font, exploring circles. I managed my time sucessfully and by the end off the day the work was all done. Cesar helped me have better ideas about the background and I painted two pieces of cartboard and glued the yellow balls to it. I was very pleased and tomorrow my job is to make the best presentation ever.

We had life drawing as well and the tutor adviced me to make bigger sketches, but I was complemented about my right proportions.

Today at EBAC we continued our protest project by making typography for our final posters. Before lunch I was experimenting with the word "fear" from my quote and was working with the sensation of war and blood. I started with tape, pens and a series of variations with ink. I liked to try to use my finger, but some planing was needed before going straight to the paper, for a lot of the tecniques I used today could get in the way of reading the word properly. Something that worked preety well was to make a tool with cut cartboard to spread all the ink, and it showed to be a great method to create grids and straight lines.

I will take some material home so I can work some more varitations and glue my experiments to my sketchbook.

Today at EBAC we brought magazines cuttouts to combine with the text we made yesterday for our protest. Since my theme is religion, I took some catholic imagery and made different combinations with the best result I had with my type. This is was very fun to do and I managed my time pretty well to experiment with a whole bunch of variations. In the afternoon, because I had sucessfull results, we went to the printing room to prepare a stencil and ink the silhouette of what I had chosen previously. The time was short and I was satisfied with my result, but I wish my stencil was a little more special and had different colours into it. I finished what I had at the time of 4pm and left hoping that what I made was enough.

Today at EBAC we focused on planning our posters and staged protest. I made one last big "placar" for my phrase and had some feedback that I shouldn't glue more stuff to it, but after talking to Michael about my thoughts, I trusted my instincts and decorated it a little bit more. I was not tottaly satisfied with my results this week because of the little time I had to perfect my ideas, but I gave up on going home frustrated and contented myself on the effort I made.

Being calm and turning anxiety off really healps you to think straight. Yesterday I left EBAC frustrated about what I've done and today I came in thinking "what can I do with the time that I have left?". I got in early and printed some quotes of the bible that were related to the theme and put together a little altar to illustrate my criticism about religion. That was what I was complemented about with the feedback recieved from my friends, that told me that my topic was pertinent and the presentation was constant all the way trough. They also adviced me to be clearer to express if I was only talking about catholicism or religion in general, as I got two postits with the same constructive criticism.

Also, I got a feedback that wasn't constructive at all, saying that it was "poorly executed and cliché". Knowing the person, I wasn't mad about it, but I would like to know why she thinked the way she did. The way she wrote it didn't add up nothing to my creative process and, in the end of the day, was just a free comment.

I came in with the 60 pictures I took this weekend plus some research about vintage ways of taking photos.

After lunch there was Cezar's lecture about his profissional work and I liked it very much for I found it very ironic. He has an interesting kind of language, which he mix objects and places with with awkard situations or strange materials. This made me think about how art is somethimes autobiographic and how we always create something that was part of our experiences as human beings. I think that it relates a lot to Gillian Wearing "I'm desperate" for irony seems like a tool for political and protest art.

Since mine is an Iphone, I designed things that I could stick to it and get the trick done. Yesterday I loved some pictures I made with different textures and colours I stuck to the camera, so all my ideas were around this technique.

I made a cartboard skeleton I can stick to the Iphone and some separate lenses to flip and try around other filters. I took the whole afternoon session to make this, but I will have to find something to glue the plates without deteriorationg the mechanism. I will visit the shoemaker near my house and ask him to stick a rivet to my device. I hope it works and if not I will have to try other of my sketches.

Today at EBAC we tried different methods on destroying our 25 pictures and following up five resquests: adding elements, subtracting elements, stitching, piercing and combining thecniques.

I calcultated my actions by quickly thinking on how my photos could speak for themselves and play with fantasy. In my sketchbook I drawed some attempts so after the real photo didn't get lost by a sad result.

Adding: drawing on top of an picture was what I did to add elements, making a gorrila hanged on top of an famous landmark in Equador. It did worked well for me for I found easy to play with imagining things. Next time I would just plan my drawing better and choose an better pen to mark photographic pape, then the design would be nicier.

Subctracting and Mixed techniques: this was much fun for subtracting with burning made good results on three pictures. It adds to the sense of creating situations on which the flames were present. This I also used on my mixed techiniques photo when burning the edges of an fire extinguinsher picture and adding water coming out from it with white ink.

Stiching: for this one I focused on combining people with backgrounds, cutting their sillhouets and putting them in a strange situation. For this I made only one outcome for using the needle was challenging and I needed time to not hurt myself. The result was good but I wish I had more skills to make better edges and nots.

Piercing and cutting: for this one I tried to create textures with the wholes I made with a tool that I borrowed. I pieced the trees and vegetations to make the sensation of leaves and life, the outcome was good but César said it was too obvius. I agreed with him and next time I would trade pictures with my friends to get better opportunities on delivering an more creative outcome.

Yesterday at EBAC was the last day of the "seeing is believing" project. We arrived and the tutors gave us an lecture about how to transform a 2D picture into a 3D object. We had no time to construct something sofisticated and because I found that the method presented was a little superficial, I thinked on my own. My idea was to print copies of the chosen photo and make layers that gave the illusion of dimension, creating a "pop-up" egg.

To my idea to turn out sucessfull I raced the clock to make the whole structure. It was big challenge, but it payed off completly. When the group crit arrived, Monique said it was great that I managed to make that in such a short notice and it was different from all my other friends. Next time I would just make the connections between the layers also with printed photos, so next time the yellow paper I used wouldn't just be showing off. I was very pleased with my feedback, but since the tutors never control the time in exibition days and we always finish late, by the time my work came up, I had no time to explain it. I felt a bit impared for I couldn't show my deconstructed photos when half of the class really got the opportunity to do so.

The Progress Tutorial this week was very handy for me to see how my journey in EBAC has been. Cézar reminded how reflection and research are important and adviced me to connect my file and references to the projects we've been doing last month. I need to show why I choose certain artist, why the colours interest me and why do I take this reference as an inspiration. He also told me that gluing stuff about exibitions and my connection with art in São Paulo would be a nice touch. At the end, he game the "low risk" classification.

I also gave me the time to get deeper in my interests and it was very refreshing. Reminding myself of my love for book illustrations and literature made me think on how I need to improve my drawing skills. Now I take more time to make my drawing diary everyday and because of that I grew more fond of this responsability. I will never be the artist that I want if I don't let myself enjoy the time that I have to make things I REALLY like.

Today we headed straight to DADO, a new place behind Conjunto Nacional that is being used as a meeting center for artists, curators and gallerists from all around the world. We heard Stefan Benchoram and Vanessa Carlos talking about new working modules for galleries and Lívia Beneditti and Vivan about art inside the digital environment.

What really stuck with me today was when Lívia was saying that artists don't know necessarily how to approach other areas - like programing - and that this becomes a challenge when launching a digital plataform like aarea. This made me think, as she spoke, that they have few pointers when spreading their projects because they leave a lot of the work in the hands of other professionals. Something I've learned in ESPM and that could come in handy in this situation is to make a suitable marketing plan for the company. A business plan, in my opinion, can help the artist learn a clear vision of the target, the other players in this section of the market, strategies and objectives. Marketing objectives consist in what we want to achive for the company, for example, "I need a 25% increase of awarness this year" and the strategies are the means we are using to achieve that.

I should never forget what I've learned in my first graduation because marketing helps a lot, not only brands, but artists like me that need to know how to SELF-PUBLISH their work.

Today at EBAC we started the Self-Publish project for real and focused our first 30 minutes on generating ideas of themes we would like to do.

What was really good about this exercise was that we came up with a series of ideas that we can later make for future projects. It helped me getting further then the "primeira ideia" and if we hadn't the pressure on creating more and more subjects, I wouldn't have decided to go with the vaporwave zine. I chose this because I will be able to experiment with a HUGE amount of techiniques such as serigraphy, collage, photoshop engeneering and much much more. It's not my favorite theme in the world, as I was thinking about a fairy-tale zine, but since there will be a wider range of possibilities with this one, it's my final decision!

Today at EBAC I came in feeling right with my idea to make a vaporwave zine and yet I wasn't quite sure what was going to be featured inside the project. This suddenly changed when Cézar gave me the tip to merge this theme with one that I previously thought on doing before: "how is gay everyday". After, I got around excellent insights when mixing the vaporwave "feeling lost" vibe with some of the angsty emotions when growing up being different might seem. The match was perfect and that made me get along with trying to think about colour palletes and continue my research about this cultural movement.

Continuing with my brainstorm, I made mindmaps both about the two subjects that were merged. This helped to connect ideas and come up with more situations that would give interesting artworks and experimentations, leading to a better and more flexible thinking process in the future when planning the whole zine.

The outcomes came pretty sucessfull and those gave me insights to mix them together to reach an glitchy effect that can be achieved with the kissing statue and the background I got with the paper I bought. Experimenting with this stuff got me more inspired to do collages and to get deep into the vaporwave style and when I made the second sketch of what my pages will be like, the ideas got more interesting.

Other thing that got my attention today was the transparent paper Bruna used to print some of her typography. After testing marking leaves with ink, I got the insight to use the same paper and print the sillhouete of nature elements over the same material. I combined this with some of the content I had previously planned and if I can reach the results I want by the end of the project, it will be very satisfactory!

Today was another day of producing in EBAC and there is only one page left to finish my vaporwave gay zine! Besides that, we heard the professional practice from Solange and it was really interesting because she didn't started by showing us the great stuff that she did, but a little bit of her journey. She said that, at first, she didn't know what career to follow and that was the most relateable thing I heard from this lectures, for instead of bringing a portfolio, she showed us that is normal to have no clue of what you want to do for the rest of your life. Solange wanted to be a storyteller and troughout the years, she discovered a moving image career with cinema, which made me think that is O.K to discover the world as you live and to wish things is what keeps you going as long if you are always producing. Of course, I love people that are great on what they do, but to hear relateable and human thoughts from a teacher kept me much more inspired.

I felt really worried about my sketchbook so I volunteered it to be analized by my peers. They said that it is good and it reflects the points I need to pay attention to, but just adviced me to take notes of the references I've been glueing to the pages and explain how it impacted my work. That made me think that on the next project I can plan a way to make a "storytelling" about it, taking notes about how my experiments led to the results I want. This would make a coeherent "step-by-step" of how my journey within the current project was developed and would make it much more readable and acessable to the person who is flipping trough it. This feedback was given already by Cézar in my progress tutorial and even though I applyed it to my research file, the sketchbook would benefict from this idea as well.

The crit for the self publish project happened today and I was paired with Tom to reflect about our works:

1) He said that my zine had a good usage of different techiniques and that the most sucessfull ones were photography and collage.

2) I was commended for the strong language that were present in each of the pages. This was something I really put effort into, so that the whole project was coeherent and unique. I think that is something I can carry to the entire graduation, the research was fundamental to generate ideas.

3) He said that the work is more based on experimentation then is on research. I partially agree because I had to look up the vaporwave movement, know what is about, the colours it uses and how fans behave because of their love for it. I think that Tom got that impression for not knowing what vaporwave is about, so next time I could present my work a little bit better and explain the references I got to apply to the project.

4) The entire class complemented me for the finishig touches to to the Gaywave. I love to present my work and make something really neat and tidy.

5) Interesting display and very organized stand.

6) Tom said that the price of 30 reais for the zine is very accurate because of the range of papers I used to print it. This is something that Monique helped me to think about and if it weren't for the attention I applied on acessing risks and planning costs, everything could be much more confuse.
